Byrd theatre is a blast from the past. Authentic, historical, beautiful architecture. The interior has been preserved and is lovely. The movies are on a big screen, and are fairly current...and the price can't be beat anywhere. The opening of every movie has the Wurlitzer...More

Excellent architecture, layout, atmosphere. Don't go here if you are looking for the best picture, sound in a movie. Go here if you want a decent quality film with an old school atmosphere. I mean 1940's old school! The Chandelier in the main auditorium, the...More

$1.99 movies are a great value, but the seats are terribly uncomfortable, especially for longer movies.

We go to the Byrd almost every Saturday for the movie and the organ. It's an unbelievably good deal for a date night or with the kids. The original 1920's decor, including chandelier, is beautiful. The seats are cramped, but I guess people were smaller...More

My VCU friends and I have seen many movies here after they're on the other big screens, but before they're released to DVD or On Demand. The seats are small, my (now) husband is 6'3" and always had a hard time with leg room. The...More

Love this place, but seating is rough. Anyone of average size, will squirm the whole movie, with cramped leg room,. Floors are sticky, seats need cleaned. But for 1.99, you can't beat it. Popcorn also old, but then again its not an 8.00 bag. Has...More

Byrd Theater is great for a date night if your trying to keep things on the cheap. The theater is very cool but the seat hurt and it always seems a little dirty. I would give it a go if you havnt been.

I had no idea what was inside when I walked in to see a movie. I thought we had razed all the fancy old movie houses. Who cares what movie is playing--just look at your surroundings. I left a donation on the way out to...More

The good parts: the architecture, the Saturday night organ playing before the movies, the cheap movies. The not so good parts: the bathrooms badly need renovation and the seats need to be replaced. A non profit foundation owns the Byrd and is trying to get...More

What a great place to go and see a cheap movie. They recently have had specials where you get 2 tickets to the movie, a large popcorn and 2 medium sodas, all for $7. Where can you beat a deal like that. The lines are...More
