As we walked the battlefield, it gave us chills to think this is where men died. The battlefield was very impressive. Oddly enough, the scenery was beautiful. You can walk the trails or drive. Malvern Hill Battlefield is one of five battlefields known as Cold...More

This was the final engagement of the union's first attempt to take Richmond in the spring of 1862. McClellan had fought and slowly pushed his way up the lower peninsula of VA with Magruder and then Joseph E Johnson opposing him leading the Southern forces....More

Signs indicated a "visitor's center." The only parking was limited and roadside. A local we spoke with said he's never seen it open. These grounds are walled and hold a cemetery. There are several roadside placards further along. Up the road on our right there...More

I had this place mostly to myself since it was a very hot and humid day. There is a short section of trail that is in the woods but most of what I walked is in an open field. It's true what others said that...More

The battlefield has been preserved from development and is still rather rural. Not much in the area but is very peaceful and rather unchanged. There are some interpretive signs but not many. The hike is peaceful.

Very nicely preserved site with clearly marked signs. I was impressed with the Visitor Center that gave a very detailed account of the battle and the campaign leading up to the battle.

For the casual historian this won't be very exciting as there are multiple canon placements, an open field, and a house on this historical site. For those who truly enjoy history, Malvern Hill is a must see as you can walk in the field of...More
