The VMFA is a treasure! The quality of its collections, both permanent and visiting, is exceptional. The museum itself is open, airy, and inviting. The restaurants are quite nice and they have a very nice museum store. It is conveniently located and has good parking....More

On a recent visit to Richmond with a large group, visiting the VMFA was on our list. Even though we really did not have a great deal of time, we enjoyed our visit. Introduction by the highly informative staff on the history of the building...More

For a museum with such large scope (Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Chinese, Pre-Columbian America, China, Korea, Japan.....), it is a well-curated and beautifully and lovingly designed museum. I am charmed that late 20 century (Rothko, etc) and ancient Rome are separated by 1 glass door. The...More

We attended a wedding reception at the museum, co we didn’t get a full picture of everything inside. What we could see was impressive with unique and beautiful pieces of art and sculpture. Want to return to see the rest.

This museum is a jewel. It has something for everyone, including beautiful grounds with remarkable sculptures and features. The art of Howardena Pindell is currently featured and is exhibited in an intimate manner that connected me to the art and the artist. There are many...More

I didn't know what to expect, but this is a very good museum. Lost of paintings from names you know, and good explanations of the installations and paintings. I feel like they were really trying to make the art accessible for everyone. Great light, and...More

Not sure about the open time. It should be posted on the web site. We had tickets during the week when they were not busy and they allowed us to go in early.

We were able to enter the exhibit 30 minutes before our set time so I doubt I would be a problem.

I would give it at least an hour. If you have a particular interest in the other items, such as the gold and other jewelry, household furnishing, etc., plan on longer.
