    Museum well worth visiting
The museum has an impressive collection which includes Tiffany , Faberge, Asian art and Impressionism - among other collections. The museum is free and has a paid parking garage adjacent to the museum. The museum is laid out very well and does not seem crowded even though there were quite a lot of people there. Definitely worth a visit!

Spent four hours (including lunch) It was really worth it.
Top notch museum. Said it covers 6000 years in 50,000 objects. It does so beautifully. Art and object d' arte are well spaced for a good look-see and are well documented. The Fabrege collection is worth the visit, but there's more! Antiquities of fine quality. Well represented in art genres. Cafe has very good food and well made coffee with a variety of selections. Even wine is sold.

    Fine museum
Really fine ‘fine’ arts museum. First visit since Covid. All the construction going on last visit is done leaving a breathtaking facade coming in. Great “Samurai” exhibit till Aug. 2024. So-so cafe. Wife’s sandwich has just one leaf of lettuce and one onion ring.

    Surprise of my Work Trip
I’ll be honest, when researching Richmond for my work trip, I didn’t see a whole lot of attractions. That’s okay it’s not a huge city so I wasn’t expecting anything crazy. One of my coworkers suggested we come here so we all came and all thoroughly enjoyed it! I couldn’t believe how nice their collection was for this museum and what a treat! We didn’t have a ton of time to explore but you could spend quite a while here. I would give yourself at least two-three hours to be safe. I totally see why this is the highest rated attraction in Richmond! Check it out. Also it’s free except for parking which was $6 when we went.

    Enjoyable experience!
What a wonderful museum! All the staff were friendly and helpful. It's large with lots to see. The cafe has a diverse menu including wine bottles to take outside and enjoy for a picnic. They had a music event playing in the garden. Just a super enjoyable experience overall!

    Stellar!
This museum offers so much of interest—Faberge eggs and many other Faberge pieces, several Tiffany pieces, furniture, sculptures, paintings, and much more. Our docent (Ann) was fun, interesting, and knowledgeable. What a wonderful experience—highly recommend!

    Well curated museum
Great museum with a wide range of art. Best collection of Faberge eggs outside of Russia. Interesting and beautiful collection of period furniture. Great collection of period furniture as well. The standing exhibits cover a good swath of time and cultures.

    First Class Museum
This is an amazing museum. First, it was free! Ok we paid for the parking ($6) but what else is free these days. Second, the museum itself is nicely situated, has a great cafe and is just pleasant to walk around. Third, the art displays are as good as any in the world -- five faberge eggs, beautiful Tiffany lamps, world class paintings. My favorite was a painting by Childe Hassam, a stunning blue painting. There are all types - from Renaissance, European masters, American and modern art. Something for everyone. Can't say enough about this place.

Still One of the Best Around
Still one of the best art museums around, and quite close (I-95 allowing) to the beltway. Well organized and lit, it really seems to be a great resource for the community as well. Always worth a visit. The gift shop didn't seem as well-rounded as some but the art makes up for that.

    Staggeringly good!
Amazingly, this museum is open 365 days a year, even Jan.1, and is free at all times. Only the special exhibits carry a surcharge and the two we saw were well worth it. Both were on photography. The store is stunning, but not inexpensive. We had lunch at both Amuse and Best Cafe and each is fine…two successive days. The range and caliber of the collection is impressive. We loved so many paintings, photos and objects we were seeing for the first time. If ever you are within an hour of Richmond, in Williamsburg or Charlottesville,go!

Start your afternoon off here, and after you get your ticket to whichever special exhibit is ongoing (admission is free, but the special exhibits may cost a low fee), take a stop in the cafe to grab a snack or coffee. Enjoy your coffee as you stroll through the yard, taking in the sights of statues and fountains. When you're ready, make your way through the museum, learning about everything from renaissance art, impressionism, art deco, Indian, Egyptian, Japanese, French, Native American, and African art history, and even Faberge eggs. When you're done, stop into the gift shop to pick up a unique souvenir, and consider getting lunch at the restaurant upstairs. Make sure to stop in for Jazz dance night every Wednesday from 6-8!

This museum is HUGE! Make sure you leave plenty of time to explore if you’re interested in everything. We skipped a few sections towards the end and were still there for multiple hours. This museum has a really great collection and I would highly recommend it to any art lovers. Additionally, they have a huge parking garage for only $6 and the museum is free.

This museum is fantastic and it's free!! Parking is $6.00 in a covered garage a short walk from the entrance. Check out the sculpture garden before you go into the museum itself. We spent 4 hrs at a comfortable pace and saw almost everything. This museum is not overwhelming and easy to navigate. It wasn't crowded and we were really able to thoroughly enjoy each gallery. I loved the Faberge exhibit. It was incredible. Don't miss the gallery filled with beautiful jewelry pieces either. I live in New York and I would say this museum rates with some of the best in NYC.

This museum is one of my favorites of all time, w/ diverse collections, reasonable entrance fee (free) and centrally located when I travel down 95.

This time, I stopped at the museum to share the Faberge eggs and Tiffany glass w/ a friend. The museum does not disappoint, ever. We didn't have time to see the special exhibit of "The Dirty South". As w/ many of their special displays, it looked interesting.

I am looking forward to their re-opening of the wing that has been undergoing construction for a long time.

We did have time to take in the outside from the glass reeds in the water lily pond to the new statue at the front of the museum. I have included a picture of it. It is meant to mirror the statue of Jeb Stuart monument which is now gone. It would be interesting, from an artistic POV to be able to see both statues. You can view photos of the Stuart statue on-line to get some idea of the comparison. It was only by talking to a guard that we found this out. It would be nice if there were a blurb, like there is on much artwork that explains that.

But, considering the racial tension in for 2020, maybe just letting it speak for itself is better.

Wonderful museum. Diverse collections in an architecturally interesting facility. The displays were well laid out and kept your interest while walking from room to room. We enjoyed the Art Deco and Art Nouveau displays, the South Asian Indian sculptures, and especially the contemporary art. It's a huge museum, so leave plenty of time or visit often, and it's free!

Awesome fine arts museum containing many master works of art. The Museum has a sizable collection of modern art and antiquities. I especially enjoyed the Fabergé collection of fine jewelry pieces and of course the "eggs".

Admission was free (I'm not sure if that was because it was memorial day weekend). Plan to spend at minimum 1-4 hours and of course that all depends on your pace. They have a café' and more formal style restaurant on site (café has reasonable pricing and a decent selection - Pizza, sandwiches and salads)

I visited the museum in October 2023. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a massive museum. I was very pressed for time so I just visited the East Asian Art section which had Chinese art and Japanese art. The cafe was very good as well including the sculptures / statues outside. I hope to return to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts next year and spend a lot more time there and explore the rest of the museum.

Our hometown is full of a variety of well-known museums, many of them focusing on specific topics or areas. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, offers a well-balanced presentation of a variety of areas. We only wanted to spend about 2 hours, and were able to pick the areas in the museum that we were interested in and fully appreciate these presentations perfectly. The floor plans are well laid out and illustrated in the museum maps.

I went to the VMFA museum following a visit to the History Museum that was literally across a parking lot from the VMFA . Because my blood sugar was low and and he history museum had only had sandwiches I needed something more substantial. i was directed by the guard to "Amuse" on the 3rd floor where i found a hidden gem--that in my view was not only better than any other museum restaurant that I have eaten in; it was better than anywhere else I ate on my vacation. The staff was attentive and the swordfish I had was excellent.

The museum has some interesting pieces; though I found some of the predestination too eclectic for my tastes.

If you are in Richmond you should check out "Amuse"; and check out the art while you are there (admission to the museum is free).

This is a truly fabulous museum. Its collections are expansive ranging from Japanese art to an extensive collection of American art and plenty of modern and contemporary are. The collections of international art are amazing, containing works by Picasso, Dali, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Rousseau, Degas, Rothko, Pollock -- you name it! There was also a very interesting and large section on Art Nouveau.

The sculpture garden is most beautiful and very pleasant to walk through, and it contains some intriguing pieces of art (I particularly liked Chloe by Jaume Piensa).

We spent a fair bit of time in the interactive art section, which especially our daughter (10) enjoyed.

And the lunch at the restaurant Amuse was exquisite in a very enjoable setting.
