This fall we had a wonderful experience walking the beautiful grounds of Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia. It was our first experience and was surprised by the wild animal, farm animal petting zoo, and bird exhibits and the beautiful Japanese Garden and pond.

This place is great for family. You can stroll through the gardens, visit the animals, and take many instagram-able photos. I love the foliage at Maymont. Every time I have visitors, it's my go to place. Summer heat may be too hot but the Fall...More

This is a fantastic place to visit. The grounds are a wonderful oasis of calm. Trees and shrubs all around with great views of the James River. The internal tour of the house is a genuine ‘frozen on time’ picture of the ‘well to do’...More

A beautiful place to take a walk and see the gardens and outbuildings. The home was a great place to tour. The history of the family was interesting. They had very extravagant tastes. The stained glass was amazing. I would definitely visit again if we...More

Maymont has to be experienced in order to be described. Everything they do, they do well. Garden Glow was spectacular! It was a refreshing autumnal-themed change of pace from the countless holiday-in-lights displays across the country. It was well run and well organized. Tour the...More

An absolutely beautiful place, with wonderful gardens (especially the Japanese garden with the waterfall). If you have time out in Afton VA (about 100 miles west) is Sawannoah which was a summer home built by the same family also worth visiting.

They have already started decorating the inside of the Dooley mansion for Christmas. Don't know if they light up the house or the gardens, but the staff was very helpful, so you could probably just call them and ask.
