We forget how much history (national, not just Virginia!) was made right here. The Capitol is very visitor-friendly! Easy access via steps or elevators. Nice gift shop and cafe. Our docent was terrific. Take a tour or wander about on your own, or both. And...More

This is such a beautiful historic building. The docent was full of iinformation & historical tidbits. Very interesting & totally entertaining. The grounds are also very nice & the Washington statue was a m axing.

We took the guided tour. Like others that December weekday, we were the only ones on the tour. Our guide was excellent, and the tour well worth the time, including his discussion of how they used the building to shoot scenes for "Lincoln."

I don't think you have to prearranged tours. They take place at various times throughout the day.
