As VA natives we are always proud to visit our states rich historic sites and this was no disappointment. There has been considerable renovation to make it more handicapped friendly. The tour guide was knowledgeable and witty, all the remarkable sculptures and paintings has great stories. It's a working capitol so we could see the space where our House of... More

Took this tour and it was so worthwhile. Beautiful building and we saw its treasure, the original statue of George Washington. Our guide was a treasure too, Betty, she was so thorough we had no questions to ask. Her delivery is just perfect, and wow her energy, she is an institution within an institution. Take the time to take the... More

The capitol sits on a hill in a very pretty park. The park also houses several interesting statues and monuments. The Governor's mansion is also in the park. The plantings are very nice too. A pleasant place to visit.

We tagged along with a large school group for our tour. The information was outstanding although probably a little too much information for the elementary students. The actual tour did not include the buildings wings. We did learn a lot about Virginia history and about the founding fathers.

It was a bit hard to find the entrance - but once we found it a friendly guard provided a map to show us where to park. The tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining - gave a great introduction to VA history.

A highlight while passing through Richmond, I love the beautiful architecture, and the grounds are well-kept and safe. An excellent spot.

The Capitol is impressive. My husband and I were in Richmond for the last leg of a 3 week tour of some southern cities. We visited Annapolis last year and I was curious to see the VA Capitol in comparison. The guided tour we received was wonderful. Mr. Hartline was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the building and was... More

On my visit, I brought my elderly parents and my two school-age kids. The new(ish) visitor center, which is underground, is most impressive and welcoming. (Nice bathrooms too.) By all means, see the short film before your tour. It is well worth the time. The tour itself is about an hour but there are opportunities for sitting. The guides are... More

We arrived a little early and rather than having to wait around they suggested how to best use the time with an interesting short movie and an excellent exhibit of the Churchill Speech. And then the Guide. To say that she was excellent would almost do her an injustice. Interesting presentations with items one would not even think to ask.... More
