Enjoyed my time here. Takes about 45 mins to go through it but learned a lot. The way that it is set up helps you understand the life of Edgar Allen Poe. Broken up in to 4 separate parts, it is a beautiful space that is well thought out. I did not really know much about him until this experience.

The docent was fantastic. Biggest thing I learned was that E A Poe started the entire category of detective novels and forensics with Murders at the Rue Morgue!

Located in the oldest house in Richmond (I believe), the Poe museum is not where he grew up, but in the same neighborhood. There are several houses on the property, all which focus on different areas of EA Poe's life. If you grew up reading his horror and science fiction, you'll love it! If you only know "The Raven," it... More

Previously toured Edgar's Philadelphia home, but this tour certainly helped answer a lot of the questions regarding much of the troubled and mysterious poet's life. Truly fascinating tour and incredibly helpful staff! Highly recommend!

This small, specialty, museum also has a "small" admission fee (adults = $6, with a $1 discount for AAA, students, seniors, and military). After checking in, you are given a card with a map and printed information for the self-guided tour of the buildings and grounds. The variety and scope of Poe artifacts is very impressive. The "enchanted garden" is... More

My wife and I have read a couple Poe poems but are far from being "fan boys". We found the museum to be neat and informative. Lots of artifacts from Poe and others in his life. Limited parking both in lot and street but worth the effort. No photos allowed in any of the 5 buildings but you can take... More

This is a great place to learn about a favorite American author. This museum has steady hours of operation, unlike the other Poe museums in Philadelphia and Baltimore(Both were closed when I tried to visit during normal hours). They also have many fun events open to the public throughout the year. My children enjoyed touring the grounds and playing games... More

Great value at the Poe Museum. The exhibits in the different buildings are quite informative about Poe's life and Poe's influence on culture. The garden is absolutely beautiful and the cats are a treat. Not completely wheel chair accessible. Worth an hour's stroll and a photo op or two.

This museum is on the smaller side, but is definitely worth a visit! It has such unique artifacts as a lock of Poe's hair, furniture from his childhood home, and first editions of the author's works. There are multiple exhibits in about four different small buildings separated by a beautiful garden. I especially enjoyed seeing the murder mystery exhibit and... More

We stopped at the Poe Museum on a Saturday in February, as two of our family members are fans of the author's works. The parking is minimal, but if you can't fit in the small lot which holds about 8 cars, there is on-the-street parking during the weekend. You can take a self-guided tour, or join one of the guided... More
