Our first visit to the Harvard University campus. Lots of students and families around on Sunday afternoon. Walking through Harvard Yard, we came across the John Harvard statue, surrounded by a crowd, watching as individuals and groups took their photos with John! Quite entertaining!!

It is a statue of a sitting, rather cross man. His donation to the college did turn out into something great, and he is well worth remembering.

I suppose its a must see because everyone was looking at it. And of course touching the foot. All of the greasy oils from people's hands polish it to a shiny gleam. Yuck. Considering the statue's location, everyone passes by so its the tourist attraction that you can't avoid. I did not see anyone pee on the statue but the whole area was dirty.

A great photo-op, until you realise that the statue is not actually John Harvard and the plaque is wrong!

Quite comical really but a very important piece of history anyways!

The John Harvard statue is most certainly the most photographed at the University. You will even see crowds waiting for their chance to stand in front of the statue. It is easy to find located just inside the gates to the Harvard Yard. The campus is beautiful so you may want to expand your walking tour to see some of the other sites including a very impressive library where you may be able to determine who John Harvard actual was or was not.

Just takes a moment. But it is a ‘must do’ when in Cambridge is to walk through Harvard Yard and pay your respects to John Harvard and run his shoe.

Lots of people were enjoying a visit to this statute. You can take pictures with it and rub the feet.

It’s a statue. That’s about it. Everyone wants to touch the shoe... I wouldn’t. People urinate on it.

Something that should be done while in Boston. Just walking around the campus has a wicked feeling. Fun to see all the high school students visiting and presenting their respects to this statue for good luck in their application.

I didn't know about this until I went there for myself but I guess legend says if you rub the feet of the statue, your kids will get into Harvard. I did not rub his feet.
