There are some good restaurants, a T stop, a playhouse but the rest is commercial. It is also a hangout for homeless on prospect and mass ave.

One can easily walk up Mass Ave from Harvard Square to Central Square, stopping to see some interesting shops along the way. You may even encounter the Harvard Turkey, a plump bird who struts the streets! There are several good restaurants in the area, and a T Stop to take you across the river to the Park Street T Station.

I stopped going to any of the curio shops and food joints in Central Square about a year ago mainly because: 1) it is a zoo to maneuver through by car, 2) even worse to find a parking spot; and 3) with all the students there, finding a place to eat on a weekend night without waiting way too long,... nice and creative area to walk, fun to see street art, beneath the colored shadows of the roof, the open area at the end of it, some street music around.

Central Sq. is a crossroads of upscale and gritty, old and new, banal and bold. Worth hanging out, walking around. City Hall and the Post Office are monumental buildings. I particularly like the art supply stores and some of the restaurants.

Used to be a grubby and rough area, but those days are long gone. Lots of ethnic restaurants and bars. Middle Eastern, African, Indian dominate, but it is almost like a mini Hells Kitchen in some ways. You could spend an afternoon here shopping, and not bother with Harvard Square. At night, the Middle East has live music, and a... More

You will see this place when walking along Massachusetts Avenue going to Harvard Square and Harvard University. You can see thrift shops, antique stores, museum and book stores. If you love art wall, check out graffiti alley. MIT museum is also located in this area.

What used to be the avoided part of Cambridge is now quite on the upswing. Some good restaurants and some much needed upscale residences.

This central area is the hub of bus and subway transit. Interesting shops (the worlds only Curious George store) and several pub/lunch bars.
