Eyjafjallajokull Visitor Centre opened on April 14th, 2011 exactly one year after the start of the Eyjafjallajokull eruption. Because it’s at the foot of the volcano, visitors feel first-hand what it is like to have a huge volcano looming over their shoulders. A short film (20 min) portrays the spectacular natural event, and the hectic times and incredible challenges met by the family farm of Thorvaldseyri.

Watch a film of the eruption and the devistation in its wake. If you are luck the family will be in the visitor centre. Excellent presentation.

A must see venue. The video presentation is a testament to mans resilience and fortitude in the face of adversity. Watch the presentation and then walk outside and marvel at the farm as it is today.

We did a self-driving tour of South Iceland and I wanted to see this volcano visitor's center in between our visits to the nearby waterfalls. We drove past it as we intended to stop on the way back and almost missed it - I think we thought it would be bigger. In any event, we stopped and loved our visit.... More

The 2010 volcano eruption was a huge environmental event that affected the world. This eruption was catastropic to Iceland. The documentary talks about a farm located at the foot of this volcano and how the 2010 eruption affected this one family. It is an incredible film, putting the viewer right there in the middle of the event. I cannot imagine... More

Really enjoyed learning about the eruption from the folks who were up close and personal. They also operate a class a farm!

There's nothing to really see here. The eruption in 2010 has made it a tourist stop, and a cafe has been built across the road with a big picture of the eruption (we didn't call in to the cafe). It's ok to stop and take a photo if you're passing, but that's about it.

Excellent short film on the Icelandic volcano of the unpronounceable name about what it is really like to live in the shadow of the volcano that disrupted thousands of flights around the world. Nice displays and shop too.

Very informative and friendly exhibition. We paid 850 isk each which we felt was only a small price to pay after watching the short film about how the eruption had affected the family and family farm. It was a very heartfelt exhibition and we were more than happy to pay the price as a small contribution to what the family... More
