We went with a kid who wanted to know about President Lincoln and Civil War. Small town which talks about the rich history. It still has the house where Abraham Lincoln stayed and preserved to the best of the quality and originality. They make you see a movie, visit the museum, take a tour of the house. There are 2-3... If you enjoy walking through a woodland area that is easy to get to with easy walking paths, this is for you. There is a nature/visitor's center with a small gift shop. There are several walking paths that vary in distance with several having views of Lake Springfield. You will walk along paths through mature stands of hardwood trees and... More

There's nothing 'gardenistic' about this garden. It really is just a bunch of trails through the woods around a lake. Mind you, they're decent trails. Great for a stroll or a run. But those who are expecting to see a garden will be sorely disappointed.

Lincoln Memorial Garden is not a "flower garden". It is a native woodland garden. In the 1930s the original 60 acre tract only contained a handful of trees, the majority of the site was pasture. The Garden was planted according to a landscape plan designed by the renowned landscape architect, Jens Jensen. All of the trees and plants that one... More

If you are looking for a place to explore this is it. Lots of walking trails for the family. The benches are fun to read, they have Lincoln quotes on them.

What a great getaway in the middle of Springfield. The trails were well kept and the volunteer actually came out to us and made sure we understood the trail maps. 6 miles of interconnecting trails in and out of woods. Lots of wildlife. The Lincoln quotes on the benches were a great asset. Loved this nature center.

On our recent road trip to Indiana, we accidentally found the Gardens thinking that we were heading to Lincoln's tomb. Some of my favorite places have been found by getting "lost" and I have to add this to the list. I love birds, wildflowers, and butterflies and I found all three here. Lots of nice trails. We were near the... More

If you are a nature lover, you should check this out. It has several walking trails and beautiful views of the lake. I wish it was dog friendly, but signs posted all over the place say no dogs are allowed. If you need to get out and have some time with nature and not drive far from town, this is... More

We almost skipped this while in the Springfield area and are extremely happy we took the time to walk the trail down to Springfield lake and then along the shoreline. Many boats were on the lake with people fishing and enjoying the nice weather. The visitors center was closed because we arrived after 5 pm.

This is a lovely gardens with many walking trails very close to the water on Lake Springfield. The trails are well maintained and the trees are gorgeous, especially the flowering ones in the spring and the leaf colors are spectacular in the fall.
