We arranged to be part of a tour to get the most out seeing the state capitol building. We only had to wait about 5 minutes to get in on a tour. There were four of us in this tour group. The tour guide discussed the various types of marble and granite in the makeup of the capitol building. The... More

This capitol building is being well maintained, with care taken both to adhere to historical accuracy and to ensure that it allow efficient, 21st century usage, while being able to last long into the future. It is well worth a tour while you are in Springfield. Don't miss the statues of Lincoln and Douglas in the Rotunda -- they are... More

This is the second time I went to the capitol. The building itself is grand as are the grounds. There is plenty of artwork inside. Lots of marble goldleaf, paintings, it's great to see where your tax dollars are going.

Beautiful architecture inside. Marble floors and stairs, beautiful dome ceiling. We visited when congress not in session, so not a whole lot of activity going on. Free to get in, easily done in under an hour. Not a whole lot around area to see beyond the capital building, all other points of interest are further east.

We like to visit State Capital buildings when we travel and this one did not disappoint. Guided tours are offered daily ever 30 minutes starting at 9:00 am. Highly recommend taking the free tour. As with most state capitals, the building is very ornate. Scenes from one if the Legally Blonde movies were filmed her. On weekends or when not... More

The Illinois State Capitol building is an attractive imposing building. Unfortunately, the legislators do not live up to their positions. Go for a visit to see where governing is supposed to take place.

Anyone visiting Springfield must visit the beautiful state Capitol. Built around 1888, this building could never be replicated in today's world. The marble and granite, and the stained glass in the dome are a modern marvel.

Great place to visit, if you have never been! We were there for work to speak to our state legislators and you couldn't help but take a moment and take in the art and architecture.
