Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

You are welcome to wander around at your leisure. This is a beautiful building, and it is so interesting to be able to see where both President Lincoln and President Obama each announced their presidential candidacies.

Very well preserved and presented site where President Lincoln served as a state legislator and ultimately lay in state before his burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery after his assassination.

The actual building where Lincoln gave the "House Divided" speech - as well as argued cases and generally politicked! Great to see all the meticulous work put into making the Old State Capitol authentic and interesting. Interpretive guides and reenactors are there with regularity. Great...More

Knowing that President Lincoln was a statesman at this building and even though they have a newer capitol building gives me respect to Illinois for keeping this building for others to appreciate it's history .

This stop was an unexpected treat — we walked through this painstakingly restored former State Capitol on our way to the current State Capitol. Lincoln tried many cases here, so it sets the historical context for other Lincoln sites. We enjoyed the authentic furnishings and...More

I believe they do. You will have to go up a set of stairs to get into the building. Once in, there is an elevator to the second floor.
