We visited one evening after enjoying dinner in the restaurant. The two exhibitions are really made by the audio tours provided - without the audio tour there isn't loads to see. The audio tours explain the history and stories behind the exhibits very well. We enjoyed our visit.

Though we didn't have the time to explore the museum, we had a very good dinner here. It was a very quiet night and the waitstaff was great. I had the beef lasagna which was very tasty and fresh. My husband had the mussels from nearby and he was very impressed.

While we were in Iceland it did not get light until 10:45-11:00am depending on cloud coverage. We stopped in right when it opened to save daylight time for the waterfalls and hiking. The first portion of the tour was interactive and tells an interesting story of the first settlers. The second half is more like an art exhibit with narrative... More

Thank you so much for your kind review and pointing out that it as good idea to use the dark hours of the day to visit the Settlement Center. It is also a warm shelter if it gets to cold. Hope you are enjoying your winter visit. Best regards Sigridur Margret More

We visited on a wet, windy day when our original plans got cancelled. So glad we did. The two audio tours were excellent. Good introduction to the settlement of Iceland with a variety of interactive displays. Particularly impressed by the tour that brought to life one of the famous Sagas. The models were very original and were artwork in their... More

There are 2 exhibits 2500 for both each and they take 30 mins each. You are given an audio tour and it guides you through each. One is about the settlers to Iceland, another is a saga. They were both interesting enough and semi interactive. I wouldn't come here just for this but if you are in the area it's... More

The audio description and the series of tableaux make the history of the settlement of Iceland and the associated sagas add to the Iceland experience. Although some may find the sagas too far fetched, but if viewed as local fairy stories they are very entertaining if a little blood thirsty.

Thank you for your kind review. The Sagas were written in the 12th century and should be taken with a pinch of salt. But they are our most important cultural heritage. Glad you enjoyed the way we present them. We try to educate and entertain so the exhibits should be edutaining. Best regards Sigridur Margret More

Want to know about the history of Iceland and how it came to being? Take the time and visit the Centre. It is worth it. The two attractions that we saw was the history of the Icelandic settlement and the Saga of Egil and his family. Takes about an hour to see both.

Visited on what must be the worst weather day we have ever experienced. The centre was well worth the difficult drive. The young man was very kind, friendly and helpful. He gave us lots of information about the area too. Both exhibitions gave us lots of wonderful information and we felt truly immersed in the Saga. Thank you and we... More

We have been stopping here for the past six years and enjoying the improvements each year. The Centre is a wonderful combination of art and history in the form of an audio-enhanced walk through a collection of 3d sculptures in wood and metal depicting the Saga of Egil and the early settlement of Iceland. Great staff genuinely interested in the... More

Very much enjoyed the two-part journey through an Icelandic Saga, the cafe is super, and the shop very good indeed.
