We found the visit to the Grabrok crater slightly disappointing, because the fun of walking up to the edge is basically taken away by the wooden path/stairs up to the edge. Still there are some nice views to be had on the top.

Visited on our 1st day in Iceland and it continued to be a favourite stop even after 12 days of seeing sights. The climb to the top is all stairs - someone said 500! Just take your time - it is worth it. The view...More

The Grabrok is an impressive volcano. The climb is not too bad and you can take your time. Even though it is just a 20 minute climb halfway there is a bench for the tired. The walk around the view gives you a great view....More

This is OK for a stop. Accessible to walk and do a tour of the crater will take you 20 minutes. Some good views from the top. If you are lucky to have good weather. Very clean as well. Give it a try. Enjoy!

This crater is small, but beautiful. There are stairs from car park (not all the way up, but in the steepest places), so it is easily accessible even in rain. And it offers nice views all around, not only inside of the crater.

Another easy stop off the ring road. There are stairs leading up to the one crater (it is not too bad so if you have difficulty you can take it slow) and then a path so you can walk around the rim. There is another...More

There is not a lot to stop and see on the 1 between Borganes and Laugarbakki. This crater is well worth a visit. There is an easy route up to the top of the crater, mostly via gentle steps. You can walk around the entire...More

Wonderful walk up to and around the crater, even with the rain and wind. Put on our rain pants and coats and good to go! Well maintained steps help with the ascent. Our young kids handled it fine and loved the experience.

After leaving Reykholt on our self drive around Iceland we stopped at Grabrok Crater. Just off the Ring Road. There are stairs that take you up for some great pictures.

Sorry, it was dry when we climbed the steps. Not sure how safe the paths around the crater would be.

If you had experience with a crater, don't bother, its an ordinary crater with no water. Otherwise its worthwhile to see if you had never seen a crater before. But be very careful in Iceland especially in winter. The... More
