This is closed for reno but they have the MOST AMAZING collection of Native American artwork. This collection was painted by a man who traveled with a German prince in order to preserve the trip, like a photographer would now. You must read about this before you go. There are several books about it. Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied - how these paintings ended up in Omaha is a huge gift to Omaha. I go there when I visit Omaha and am sad it is temporarily closed but will be glad to go again when they reopen. It is fantastic.

Good permanent collection, good signage, and excellent Karl Bodmer exhibit (I think until May 1). We stayed an extra day here for this & were not disappointed.

Loved their modern art section. The artwork of Jennifer Steinkamp's
Judy Crook was mesmerizing. I could sit and watch it all day long.
The museum has a thorough selection of a variety of art. Enjoyed walking through the different rooms.
I also loved seeing William Merritt Chase's Sunlight and Shadow. It looks like a peek into someone's backyard. Simply lovely.

Fine collection of classic, modern, folk, and tribal art. Free entry. Nice little cafe with dining tables in lovely huge atrium featuring an impressive Chihuly glasswork.

This place is amazing! They have lots of artwork to see and a lot of well know ones like Monet. The building, itself, is a work of art. The best part is 90% of it is Free! I can't wait to go back to Omaha with my girls so they can experience it.

I think this museum has the most friendly and helpful staff of any art museum we have been to. The sculpture garden was amazing!

Beautiful and fun, from the outdoor space to inside. Our kids (1 and 5) as well as s enjoyed it very mischievous. Our favorite is the lower level art interactive room, very thoughtful and fun activities, some even 1 yr-old can engage, made us very happy.
Also very good in preventing COVID, such as requiring hand-sanitizer before entering the room of interaction and having a staff sanitizing there all the time

Another trip to Omaha and another visit to the Joslyn Museum. Don’t know why I haven’t done this overdue review. This is a 1st rate museum for a leisurely visit with excellent art. You can see the exhibits in about 2 hrs and that includes the gift shop. The restaurant was not open due to our “friend” Covid. There are plenty of the masters; Matisse, Reuben’s, Monet, Rembrandt and many others. No Van Gogh or Da Vinci..... yet! Their new addition should be finished in 2022. In the Durham Gallery they have a nice collection of American Indian Art with a focus on Nebraska and the Midwest. There is a nice Remington on display, also. The center court fountain is beautifully tiled and a nice place to sit a minute and allow the kids to toss coins and make a wish. Another high light is the large Chihuly sculpture on the main floor and two-dimensional drawings by the sculpture, also.
There is adequate parking even with the construction did I mention.... free! The admission to the museum is also free. This museum will not wear you out and I saw couples as well as families enjoying the exhibits. The staff shows their Nebraska hospitality and easy to find. I’ll go again next year when the new wing opens, see you there. Remember to check their web site for hours and temporary exhibits.
