One of my sons visited five years ago and raved about the impressive structure and tour and while I thought I'd tempered my expectations given the off season visit (I knew there would be no summer light show) this tour was extremely disappointing. I'm not...More

We didn't take the tour, but found the visitor's center fascinating--with recorded memories of people who had lived in the area or worked on it, artifacts (a diving suit-the headgear alone weighing 80 pounds) maps (watersheds, reservoirs) and many informational sheets about the dam and...More

The dam itself is impressive but not as large as I expected. That’s just from a visual impression. It does not have the impacting impression of the Hoover/Boulder Dam. Because it was February there were no dam tours so we only saw the dam from...More

The visitor's center at the top is the place to start, and if you have time, take in one of the tours to the pumphouse or powerhouse, depending on maintenance and security schedules. Fascination... and not just to my engineer husband. I found the info...More

If this is the first dam you visit and you have plenty of time then go for the tour. But be prepared to spend the majority of your time waiting, being security checked and driven from one side through the town to the other side...More

Having been to the Hoover Dam we were keen to visit the Grand Coulee Dam. Quite a drive out but worth it, there is plenty of parking with fantastic views out over the dam. The visitor center is well worth a walk around with lots...More

I took the tour of the Grand Coulee dam with my husband but wouldn't recommend it. Too much time is taken up with security searches and lectures, with struggling into and out of the vans without proper doors for the number of rows of seats,...More

This review is just for the dam tour: Most of the time you spend being security checked, being driven in a van all the way back to starting place near the visitor center and back, and waiting. In case you have been at the visitor...More

the Dam is an amazing site to see, we visited in the off season so didn't get to see the light show. definitely visit the visitors center and learn how and why the dam was created. it is helping Washington in many different ways.

If you're in the area you should not miss this spectacle. A gargantuan engineering feat. An amazing accomplishment that could not have happened without Franklin D. Roosevelt and the W.P.A. The project provided jobs during the depression, power to the Northwest and beyond, and irrigation...More
