Go behind the scenes of the world's most secretive business. Take a tour of a Provençal truffle plantation, learn how truffles are cultivated and truffle dogs are trained, and go on a hunt for France's elusive "black gold" with professional hunters who know all the tricks of the trade. You'll be regaled with stories of successes and sabotage, and learn to tell the difference between the different types of French truffles and the "fakes" from China. Tours are followed up with a sampling of fresh truffle hors d'oeuvres, Champagne and a tasting of our Les Pastras olive and truffle oil. A real treat! We were on our honeymoon trip and found this tour in google. Emailed the host 2 days before the tour and luckily they had one in our available time period. Liza and Johann are two awesome hosts, we learned a lot about organic farming, how truffles are formed and the hunting dogs are well trained and cute. After the tour... More

What an afternoon! Our family (boys aged 9 and 11) signed up for one of Johann's last winter truffle hunts of the season. After a gentle walk under the warm April sun, we learned that 1) dogs - not pigs - are used to find truffles 2) sometimes said dogs are cute, fluffy wee things (not the strapping hunting dogs... My partner and I love fine wines and good food. And we are pretty heavy on 'stuff' so for Christmas gifts I always like to treat my other (better?) half to an experience - ideally involving some culture, food, physical activity and travel. After previous tasting trips to Champagne and cooking courses in Paris, I decided a truffle hunt was... More

This review is long overdue, but only because I was having a hard time putting into words how much we enjoyed our time with Johann and Lisa! We visited in April of 2016, and were just going to miss season (starting in May). I had been corresponding with Johann and he was gracious enough to at least attempt a hunt... More

educational tour with Johann was wonderful. we learned a lot. Was amazed at the 2 dogs....1 was lazy but was the digger and the other was the finder but wouldn't dig. They actually found a couple of truffles. Tasting with champagne capped the event. will recommend to others

Our friends and I spent an afternoon with the owner, Johann, for an interesting truffle tour in his vast property. My husband got to bring the basket for the truffles the dogs will be able to hunt and find. We learned a lot from him and made me appreciate Truffles even more. It was just amazing to see Mirabelle and... More

The experience that Johann and Lisa provide is amazing. Their hospitality is warm and generous and their passion for what they do in contagious. Truffle hunting in the south if France is definitely one of the most authentic travel experiences of our holiday, and learning about such a mysterious and luxurious force of nature was well worth it. Don't think... More

When you visit the Luberon, it's easy enough to go markets, or museums, or vineyards. BUT -- an afternoon at Les Pastras is 'hors classe' -- above it all. You'll meet 2 amazing, passionate people, and experience a hidden corner of Provence and the Luberon from their perspective. By the way, when Lisa serves truffles, its not just a quick... More

Easily one of the best activities/tours we've ever done. My husband and I visited at the start of January and while it was cold, the weather didn't impact how great the experience was. Johann is so nice and friendly and explained everything in such a clear and entertaining way. Watching the dogs hunt and understanding the process behind truffle farming... More

We were a group of 4 on a cool late November afternoon. We watched the dogs hunting truffles while Johann explained how to train dogs to hunt truffles. He also explained where the truffles like to grow, signs around trees that you may have truffles growing and how you can purchase oak trees that have truffle spores on them. We... More
