A fairly birdy place. Great for nesting red necked grebes. Lot's of other waterfowl in transit. Not too big and can scope in less than 1/2 hour. Bummer that there are some homeless camps along one edge.

In Winter, families ice skate, walk their children, or drink in the beauty of the water framed by snowy mountains. Runners exercising and locals enjoying the serenity. Located walking distance from downtown, it's easy to visit this area. Take a walk of view this location.

We went to see this lagoon. Therefore, we took bus 25 from Midtown and then took bus 10. Being a Sunday, frequency of the bus was very less- at 30 min interval. After coming here and having a brisk walk, we found the Lagoon and bit disappointed. It was not as large as envisaged and except few ducks and trees, it was not scenically beautiful as expected in Alaska.
We went to downtown by Bus 25 after that.

The lagoon is actually 2 artificial lakes with man-made islands and is very popular with the locals for walking and kayaking. It is also a bird sanctuary with heaps of different wildlife.

This is a great place to sit and relax. There are plenty of benches to sit and watch the water fowl - or people watch, as this is right along the coastal trail were people walk, run, bike, etc. Also, has large new playground and ice cream/snack shop.

People bike, walk, and run along the path here. You can also see a lots of nesting birds in the spring and summer- gulls, terns, grebes, etc. There are also benches where you can rest and take in the view.

Stopped by Westchester lagoon while taking a Segway tour from downtown. Cruised the Coastal trail from downtown Anchorage and back.

Westchester lagoon is a great place to come in any season if you want to get some Alaska scenery pictures. Its also apparently a special place for birders to spot different species that feed and mate nearby. In the winter, the city maintains the ice on the lagoon as a really nice skating surface, and on certain days provides heating fires to warm by, and has food trucks to purchase snacks from. In the summer, it is often the start or end point for running races.

Westchester Lagoon is one of the awesome spots in Anchorage’s great park system, and folks of all ages enjoy this scenic place throughout the entire year :)). In winter, the frozen surface is groomed for ice skating (with wood fires for warming yourself)... during the summer, the trails are nice for cycling, running, and strolling (it’s also connected to the Coastal Trail, allowing you to have a short to long excursion as preferred). Plenty of free parking as well... enjoy one of our favorite outdoor spots :)
