- Globetrotter10079Seattle, Washington442 contributionsInteresting experienceI went there to get Smoked Red King Salmon. I took it home, and saw that the fish guy gave me Smoked White King by mistake. I called there , and was offered a discount when I return to exchange salmons. I also found out that there is a discount for Veterans. I still have a card to get a 20% discount when I purchase something else there. The gentleman was very nice when I did the exchange.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 9 May 2024
- TakeFiveTravelMichigan425 contributionsFun Place to StrollThe Market stretches over many blocks along the shore in downtown Seattle. It includes open stalls with flowers, fish/sea food, and goods, as well as stores and restaurants. Take time to watch the tossing of the fish … it’s fun, and take advantage of the samples mongers are offering. If you are hoping to hit one of the popular shops (like the cheese shop) plan on waiting patiently in line and take advantage of the break to people watch.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 12 May 2024
- Stay277534560507 contributionsPikes Market Place, Seattle WAGreat taste, samples, fish throwing. Amazing. The cut flowers are gorgeous and fragrant. Opened later than we were told. Don’t show up before 9 am. None of the eating places were open that early. E are on the water front and there was only one place open.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 29 June 2024
- Kaitlyn D1 contributionGreatest Fish, Entertainment, & Customer Service! The fish was so fresh and amazing! It was so much fun to watch them throw the fish! We bought fish from them (live in St. Louis, MO) and froze the remaining. It is just as good a month later and amazing salmon! Must stop to not only see but experience! We had an issue with our delivery date being incorrect but received INCREDIBLE customer service with the issue!Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 September 2024

This was our 2nd visit to the Fish Market otherwise known for the "flying fish". Perhaps it was the difference in our timing-first time was AM; 2nd time near lunchtime but the difference in the experience was significant.
The first time fish were flying the entire visit about 20 to 30 minutes. This time only two fish flew during 10 to 15 minutes and then only when someone either bought a fish or offered a $10 tip to see a fish fly.
Still interesting to see the variety, size, and quantity of fish available for sale.
Very crowded creating a good opportunity for pickpockets

Yes, everyone loves the market, but what is everyone's favorite thing there? Front and center when you walk in the Pike Place Market, you will find the fish market with nearly every type of seafood in front of you on ice. However, you will also find a big crowd who have come to see the fish toss. It is something of a Seattle tradition that you have to see while you are here. As a market, it has every seafood available to you and if you have never seen a fish market it is an experience to be taken in. You are probably visiting the Pike Place Market so enjoy the experience while you are here.

I looked forward to visiting the famous fish market where the fish is thrown from one employee to the other with great skill. There were lots of people gathered to watch, but an employee named Kobi heckled the audience and was extremely rude. He was trying to bully people into buying seafood and THEN they could watch the fish throw. He was so rude and hateful to people asking questions. We left because he was so rude.

This place is so cool! We had so much fun here. Not only is it neat to watch them throw around the fish but their seafood is really good. We bought some clams, oysters, scallops and salmon here. The employee at the fish market was so helpful to us. He answered all our questions and helped us pick out our items. We then took everything back to our airbnb and had the best dinner! It was really a lot of fun.

The famous fish toss and fun to watch. I would recommend going early in the day before the crowds roll in. We loved watching both the staff and people who ordered fish get to throw their fish (salmon and octopus).

I was excited to visit the fish market, having read positive reviews beforehand. However, I was disappointed. It felt like a typical farmers market, but much more crowded and not very clean.
Despite the name, the selection of fish was limited to just three small sections. On a positive note, the fish itself was excellent - fresh and delicious. They also had some beautiful flowers.

We walked down hill to Pikes Market, to see the world-famous Pike Place Fish Market fish throwing stall. The Pike Place Fish Market, was founded in 1930, is an open-air fish market located at the corner of Pike Street and Pike Place.
It is known for their tradition of fishmongers, throwing fish that customers have purchased, before they are wrapped.
It’s always crowded here, attracting up to 10,000 daily visitors, all trying to take selfies with the airborne fish.
We were informed that they all so package seafood, cooked and uncooked for flight or overnight shipment.
Not being a fish eater, we just took photos and moved on.
TIP: watch out for the monkfish, which sometimes, thanks to a hidden line, is made to "snap" at customers. Ha Ha

Most tourists stop here because it's the place where you see the guys chucking fish across the counters back and forth and yelling while they do it.
It's quite a treat actually even seeing it for the 2nd time.
But it's a must-experience in Seattle.
It's near the bronze pig so do remember to put some coins in there to help support education for the less fortunate.
This is a great spot to see all the cold-water types of seafood that you may not encounter in your neck of the woods.

This is a great seafood vendor and attraction in Pike Place Market, located in Seattle. This vendor is where visitors can see the famous fish throwing. The staff are very helpful and provide amazing entertainment by throwing fish. They can ship their fresh seafood, anywhere in the United States overnight.

Whenever a customer purchases fish, they toss the fish throughout the area and to the guy in the back to prep it for sale. It's pretty entertaining.

How is the weather in August in Seattle? What type of fish can we find in the Pike market? Do we get fresh water fish there?
Written 28 May 2018
The weather is usually great in August. It can be hot but it is not usually humid. We don't get much rain in August. You can get all kinds of seafood at the market as well as other fresh produce. You can get some fresh water fish but the specialty is seafood like salmon and crab.

I will be there in July. What time of day is preferable to go and where do we get the food you suggested?

I was in Lahaina (Maui Island) and is really nice go there for dinner, around 8 p.m. There is another Fish market in Paia (Maui Island) in the North!

IS it located right under the big pike market sign with the clock, or on the other side of the street from there? Google maps is confusing me.
Written 7 June 2016
The Market is a block long, two sides of the street affair underneath the Pike Place Market sign. Most of the time, especially the week-end, there are lots of folks but the variety of fruit, flowers, fish and all manner of good things to eat and drink make it worthwhile. Hope you found it!
