About
We opened our first Starbucks Reserve® Roastery in Seattle’s vibrant Capitol Hill neighborhood in December 2014. It is an immersive and dramatic expression of our passion for coffee, located just nine blocks from our original Starbucks Pike Place store. Unreasonable passion drove us as we obsessed over every aspect of this space, from the coffees to the roasters to the custom-design pneumatic tubes that usher the beans through the building. We welcome you in to experience the art, science and theater of coffee craft.

- FFBSingapore184 contributionsGreat experienceNot a big fan of Starbucks but still found this place pretty interesting. There are also cute merch for sale. Note that the queue can get pretty long - to enter, find a seat and then order your drinks.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 October 2023
- Fivestar247Auckland Central, New Zealand482 contributionsA must visit if in Seattle!Be prepared to queue to gain entry. They cap it to maximise the experience for people inside. On-site bakery, coffee roasters, licensed bar and cafe. Lots of merchandise available for purchase. Great selection of coffee and other drinks. Good vibes and atmosphere! A must visit if in Seattle!!Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 20 October 2023
- Gardengel-IoWWest Sussex, United Kingdom1,014 contributionsFor real coffee loversBit of a novelty and a bit out of town but still walkable. Interesting to see all the workings of coffee roasting with the huge vats and pipes. Lots of Merchandise, most at silly prices, obviously coffee for sale, wet and dry, also pastries. Some seating , but seemed not enough for the size of the place. Nothing else to do around it, so it is a special trip really.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 November 2023
- davechri196 contributionsThe Disneyland of CoffeeThis is the second roastery we've visited (the first was Chicago) and it was great going to the original. We arrived in the morning around 9:30 AM. There was no line and we walked right in. What a smell! It was delightful. We got pastries, four beverages (there were only 3 of us, lol), and were lucky enough to get a table. If you like Starbucks or just coffee culture then this is a must-see destination in Seattle. One note... when we walked back by the Roastery at around 11:30 AM there was a line down the street. Earlier is better.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 December 2023
- SiJeebLondon, United Kingdom34 contributionsExcellent place with this amazing nostalgic information board.Absolutely loved this place and the quality of the food was excellent. They had something that I have been searching for a long time - Maritozzo. It was pricey but worth the experience. Also had their lasagne which was brilliant. The place is quite large and spacious. They have this board that reminded me of the notice boards that you used to find at airports and railway stations; before they introduced digital screens to inform passengers of their flights and trains. Every now and then the board would "crackle" , (can't think of anyway else to describe it), into life and all the characters would start flipping and a new message would show up. This sound bought back so many nostalgic travel memories of being at airports and railway stations that once had these boards. Ok. Ok. I know its showing my age, but it was such a great touch. Hats off to the designers who put this board in place. This a premium Starbucks and it everything about it is premium and worth a visit.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 15 March 2024
- knhdahBeaverton, Oregon166 contributionsThe Disneyland of Starbucks'It was the last day of our trip, we were going to be nearby, and we'd read that it was only one of 7 Reserve Roasteries in the World. So we thought if the line wasn't too long, that we'd stop. We arrived at 12:30pm and walked right in. Yes, you're going to pay more for drinks, food, merch, than a normal Starbucks. However, they have multiple levels of seating, coffee beans are transported by see-thru pneumatic tubes throughout the entire place, and there are many employees on hand to answer questions, etc. We had their current specials: the Malt & the Caramel Mocha Drizzle Affogato, along with a raspberry cornetto that was to die for. And picked up a special mug with the Reserve's GPS coordinates, which was really cool! Definitely worth a stop.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 March 2024
- BlovesfoodBensalem, Pennsylvania649 contributionsGreat coffee & staff are awesomeThis was worth the long walk up hill to experience the Roastery. I had no idea what I was getting us into but have zero regrets! I tried a flight of cold foam coffee and fell in love. The Roastery has pastries and lunch items. Things are ordered at different stations- one for general coffee, one for alcohol, and a food station. Not to mention the cashiers for the gifts you are going to buy! There is everything for very serious coffee drinkers, a plethora of coffee mugs/water bottles/thermal cups, and ornaments, hand towels, and other small items. I loved the whiskey barrel-aged blend and bought a bag to take home. The staff will grind it for you if you need ground coffee. Excellent service! We were there around 2pm and it was packed. Finding a seat is hard but be patient and you will find a pot. The stations were adequately staffed and the team seemed to work well together. I love seeing busy environments where everyone works together to provide a good experience to their guests. 10/10!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024

- Matty EastonOakland, California273 contributionsCome for the Novelty, Stay for the Espresso MartiniIf you’re a fan of Starbucks at all, you’ll love this upscale roastery reserve. The surprise gem inside is not the giant roaster nor the plethora of baked goods, but rather the unexpectedly sophisticated bar serving up a variety of coffee-infused cocktails. We opted for the flight of espresso martinis, perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up. The drinks were not particularly strong, but I wasn’t expecting to get drunk at a Starbucks (I left those days behind in college). The two women next to us at the bar were returning for their second time that week, so clearly the drinks have enough appeal and charm to warrant repeat visitors. Be prepared to keep your wits about you in this place or risk getting swept up from all the busy commotion. It was tough finding a spot to sit and we had to battle it out against another couple to snag seats at the coveted bar (thankfully, we prevailed). There’s a register dedicated to purchasing merch, so of course we had to pick up one of the iconic Starbucks mugs — however, we were really surprised to see the pay screen prompt us to tip on the purchase. We didn’t feel bad opting out of tipping on a mug purchase, but be prepared for this place to milk as much out of you as it can. Would I go back to this reserve? For the novelty, yes, but not for the coffee alone — Seattle’s got such a great bean scene that there’s no need to stop by more than once, imo.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 May 2024
- HeatherLas Vegas, Nevada1,328 contributionsCoolI attended the It Started Here First experience and it was cool to try drinks only available at the roastery. The drinks were delicious, and the host was great! There is a parking garage nearby which is really your only option if you're driving there. Be prepared to stand in a very long line if you want to purchase a drink. If you have tickets for an experience go straight to the bar downstairs. If the experience hadn't been so expensive I would've done it more than once for the drinks, they were that good!Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 11 June 2024

$50 Roastery tour was very disappointing. Barista showed up 5 minutes late and was finished 25 minutes later. We received one espresso mug of coffee from the Galopagus islands at the beginning of the tour before we knew much about the coffee. There were 4 of us on the tour, but I could barely hear over the background music, the hub bub of the cafe, and the barista's [tour guide] coughing. I stayed after the tour and talked to a guy at the roaster who gave far more information than the tour guide had. And that was free. It's an amazing place, but my advice is to just wander around on your own and spend $50 on coffee you can take home. And to Starbucks, I recommend lowering the price to $20 or at least giving us $50 worth of coffee.

Great attraction for coffee lovers and followers of the Starbucks brand.
However, its very pricy for the drinks and gifts. The quality of the architecture, layout within and overall class of the venue is fantastic. However the price of what is on offer is a bit much. Also, it gets a bit busy, so can be quite manic with the multiple servers, orders getting distributed at different times and seat availability.
There is a nice Starbucks with plenty of seating a couple of minutes walk away if you really want a Starbucks.

This place needs some crowd control/reservation system on weekends. There are several hundred people inside on a random Saturday morning and the line wrapped round and round. It felt like an overcrowded airport. People were taking photos non-stop at the front door, blocking critical pathways to the point that it was difficult to step into the place. Not enjoyable at all - in & out in 5 minutes.

Starbucks should be extremely grateful and proud of Scott, the Cocktail Bar Manager here, because he meticulously and unscrupulously adheres to their policies and procedures to the letter. Job well done Scott! Despite being (visibly) in our late 50’s and having with us our UK Driving Licences, which confirm our birth dates in the 1960’s, he refused to serve us Expresso Martinis. Instead, he told us, he could only accept a UK Passport as this is the only means of identification “State legislature”, and therefore Starbucks, will accept. And this was after waiting outside in a queue for 25 minutes and then inside in a queue at the bar for a further 15 minutes. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait the stated additional 30 minutes for the cocktails to be made.
Thanks to Scott, the story does have a happy ending, though. We walked 10 minutes down the hill to Oliver’s, touted as Seattle’s best cocktail bar, and were served immediately by Stuart with two Expresso Martinis at the same price as they are in Starbucks. What was different though, was that we were in a much more exclusive and opulent environment sat quietly at the bar without all the noise and crowds that were in Starbucks. What’s more, Stuart didn’t even ask to see any ID, let alone our Passports.
So, if you are British and want to go here for a cocktail, make sure you take your Passport! Or, even better, don’t bother walking up that long hill and then standing in a long queue; just go and see Stuart at Oliver’s.

I am from WA but currently live overseas and chose this venue to host my sisters bridal party, They have two rooms that are rentable for however long the event will be. A bit pricey but nice as they are separate from the main roastery area which can definitely be very very busy. Via email I was able to coordinate everything for the event and the venue was very responsive and helpful.
The day of the event is where I have to hand it to the store manager that day - Jill H. she was amazing! We had originally been informed that we would have a dedicated barista for the event however that didn't happen and Jill took care of us the entire 3 hour event. She was so kind, attentive, and helpful all while managing a very busy roastery on a Saturday afternoon. She even had a little goodie bag put together for my sister, came in and introduced herself to everyone making sure to say a special hello to my sister, the guest of honor, and in general made sure that we were always taken care of. I truly cannot express how grateful I am to have had her helping us the day of the event. Many people at the event also commented on how great she was. Not to mention the food and drinks were delicious and for how busy the entire roastery was they didn't take too long to arrive!
So long story short - thank you Jill for making my sisters bridal shower a great experience and I look forward to many more visits to the roastery in the future!

My wife and I really enjoyed our experience here. Not a ton of touring to do inside but very neat to see how some of the coffee is made. She had the martini espresso flight and we recommend if you just like regular espresso martini to stick with that. The lime and citrus martinis had unique, but odd, tastes. Our wait in line was around 20 minutes at approximately 1pm on a Monday. You can order food and it looked delicious!

This is a must visit for any Starbucks fan visiting Seattle. While the original Starbucks near Pike market is popular, it is a small store that speaks to the humble beginnings of the coffee giant. In contrast, this place speaks to the powerhouse that Starbucks has become. Set on Capitol Hill not far from downtown, it is a massive and inviting space. It is also popular, so depending on the time of your visit, line ups could be involved. Seating can be a challenge to find.
The coffees and baked goods on offer are upgraded from what is available at a regular Starbucks. We ordered espresso based beverages and were offered the choice of 4 different bean varieties. Pastries we ordered (chocolate croissant and cinnamon roll) were good. As we didn't yet have a seat when we ordered, they had to process our order as a takeout. Packaging was also an upgrade from what you would find at a regular location. Service was very professional.
At the last minute we did find a table (thank goodness as it was raining outside and there isn't outdoor seating anyway). This made our visit very enjoyable. It is always a nice experience to sip hot coffee while sitting comfortably and looking out the window at rain pouring down.
We were overlooking giant roasting equipment. Our son in law once attended a coffee roasting demo there. It didn't seem to be happening when we were there, likely due to continued restrictions.
There are many wonderful coffee places in Seattle but this is definitely worth a visit.

What a wonderful place! It's an exceptionally large cafe come museum, fiulled with giant sized zopper coffee grinders and all sorts of other fascinating machinery all to do with coffee. Inside you will find everything is of exceptional quality, whether seating areas at or off from the cafe-bars, coffee merchandise shop, superb bread bakery & shop, and a coctail bar with knowledgeable efficient mixologists. Coffee is the main but there's a great choice of simple but delicious foods to enjoy on the premises and with it you can have good wines, or whetever you like. Service and atmosphere is top notch, I will definately go back! And invite people to come with..

The secret is out, unfortunately. Starbucks Reserve Roastery is a hit, and for good reason. I happened to be visiting for a tasting session, which was extremely interesting and enjoyable. I highly recommend signing up ahead of time for one of the classes (for a fee, of course). Otherwise, I was told that the wait for drinks or food was about an hour. I can't speak to whether those items are worth the wait, but it's definitely got a great atmosphere with multiple counters to order from and a decent amount of seating.

Having discovered this place when it opened years ago I can say it’s a beautiful, well decorated, warm place. Now we’re back to visit Seattle again. Coming from France and used to café croissant it seems that The Reserve is very expensive for what it is. Over $24 for 2 sets of coffee croissant. Moreover the number of confortable chairs is limited. Most are wooden chairs.
Bathrooms are clean, ambiance is great.

No, not that I am aware of.
Walk-ins are welcome for ordering drinks & bakery items.
I believe you can walk in for sit down meals as well.

Is there a 'best' time of the day to visit on a weekday, i.e. not as crowded?
Written 25 March 2019
Try going in the morning service is just better than the afternoon. I guess since top management leaves for the day service declines.

Is there food here? Can you eat breakfast?
Written 18 June 2018
Yes - two different food sections; And yes - they have an assortment of breakfast foods until 1100; then switch to lunch items. Great choices and options - you can go 'light' or have complete meals. Enjoy!

Just curious, but are you able to use Starbuck's rewards for items here? Or Starbuck's gift cards?
Written 21 May 2016
The Starbuck's card works for gaining points but not for rewards.

There is no fee for entry. The Reserve and Roastery operates very much like a retail store. There is an area that offers high end coffee mugs and accessories made by regional artisians. The various coffee beans are for sale and of course plenty of coffee to drink! The most expensive coffee order that I noticed was the siphon brewed coffee that was sold at $11.00 per cup. You can, however, taste this as a sample at the experience bar for free. It is a beautiful and fascinating place to visit and you don't have to spend much at all to enjoy the venue.
