On a quest for good fried chicken, this tav came up in a search so decided to give it a try. Really not very attractive but go on in - great service, friendly bar keep and it is, indeed, darn good fried chicken. spinach salad is terrific.

Good bar food, great prices, fun neighborhood bar. I felt like a local on my first visit. Great place to watch March Madness or NHL. A Seahawks bar. I look forward to a re-visit. The owner was working on her place and stopped to meet us. Very friendly. Thanks Carol!

We were so excited to try Waterwheel-from the website it looked like a pretty cool dive bar. But our experience left more to be desired. So let’s start with the good. The atmosphere was accurately described-dimly lit, a few four tops, pinball machine, ATM, TVs, and a well-stocked bar. The bartender was attentive and pleasant. We ordered a vodka/soda and a whiskey sour. Then we asked to see the food menu. To our surprise they do not have a kitchen, despite advertising food on their website (complete with a PDF menu). This was a bit of a turn-off as we were going to meet friends after work for drinks and an appetizer. But, as we were waiting for our drinks, we tried to rationalize staying as there were food options close by. Then come the drinks. My whiskey sour was some weird pre-mix that was quite difficult to drink and the vodka/soda was just ok. After that, we decided to venture elsewhere for our friends to meet us. There are plenty of dive bars in Seattle and we had high hopes for this one...but spend your money somewhere else.

Now I grew up on a gravel road, so I ain't fancy, but this place took not giving a crap to a whole new level. It took forever to get a beer and the selection is terrible. They left our food sitting on the counter behind the bar forever and we finally had to say "hey, is that our food?" They somehow blamed us for not notifying them sooner our food was done?!?! Then they refused to reheat it and were total jerks about it. Maybe we caught them at their worst, but If you go there and see a bartender who looks like a fat karate kid, turn around and walk out. My buddy who loves a good dive bar was even super-pissed and ready to throw cold tater tots at people. This place sucks.

I visited the Waterwheel Lounge a few years ago and found it to be great place to for brews and tasty vittles.

And that's what keeps me coming back.

For my money the WW serves up one of the best burgers in Seattle. The fried chicken is delicious too along with the other menu offerings.

If you want an alternative to pricey weekend brunches with a tab that looks like your car payment (see Salty's) then your gonna love the Waterwheel brunch 10 am to 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Good selection including Eggs Benedict omelettes, scrambles...and always a special or 3 or 4. Did I mention the famed WW Bloody Mary? It's a big un. Caution: if you have weak wrists order something else.

As one of Seattle's most renowned dive bars the WW has a colorful history.

I'm told back in the 70's the pub was moved, lock, stock, and beer barrels up 15th Avenue in Ballard to where it sits today as one of Seattle's most renowned dive bars.
Has a 70's feel to it. Only thing missing is the shag carpeting. I understand, also, the Waterwheel was a movie filming location.

I like that there is a nice cross section of patrons both old and young. And there's something for everybody from kareoke, trivia night, an outdoor patio, sports events on HD screens (the Seattle Post Intelligencer last month named the Waterwheel one of the best places to watch the Super Bowl) to live music and stand up comedy.

Friendly owner, Carole and her staff, will make you feel right at home.

I recommend the Waterwheel for fun, your favorite beverages, and good food in a Ballard pub.

Board games, video games(yes Galaga!), Bingo, Trivia and Karaoke- too much fun to be had while having a well poured cocktail. Fast and friendly service serving cheap Happy Hour beers and cocktails. Breakfast there on weekends is always great way to start your day. Oh yeah, and did I mention great cocktails?
