We walked up from Alki, which is actually quite manageable. The trails themselves are fairly well maintained; they could be a little better kept so the hills don't slide, but overall they're definitely in good enough condition to take a leisurely walk through.

This is a great place to hike and just take a walk. Its so peaceful and the trees are tall. Mostly dirt path so it can get muddy. There is a creek where you can listen and enjoy nature.

You can walk up to the park from Alki or there is a small parking lot at the park (which is often full on the weekends) The is a beautiful wooded area, great for walking in almost any weather.

Schmitz Park is one of the many small parks in Seattle that many people are unaware of. If you're in West Seattle and looking for a walk in some beautiful woods try Schmitz Park.

We've recently moved to Seattle and Schmitz park is close. We've had several people mention it to us as just a lovely place to just 'get away' for an hour or two. They weren't wrong. I could only stay for an hour but I thoroughly enjoyed it. You'd never know you were in the city. Lovely streams and old trees.

Schmitz Park is a small park located really close to Alki Beach in West Seattle. It's not hard to find. (there is not a lot of parking, but you could walk from the beach). You're on quiet trails with beautiful trees.

On a trip to Seattle, we stayed near Alki Beach. Rattling around for something to fill a couple of hours, we rode the free King County island loop shuttle (775 from Seacrest Park) to Schmitz Preserve Park. On entering Schmitz Preserve, you walk from a residential street straight into an old growth forest. Abundant with streams, towering trees, ferns and winding paths, it evokes a sort of a magical feeling. The outside world disappears for a bit. It's not large, and wouldn't do if you're looking for some strenuous hiking, but to go a short distance to get away from it all, it's perfect.

Schmitz Park is only a few blocks from Alki Beach so can be easily incorporated into a visit.

The park has peaceful trails, a nice stream, places to sit and picnic, and the most wonderful sense of peace and quiet. It is a wonderful oasis to get away from the noise and hubbub of Seattle.
