    Nice station. Good employee!
King street station is small with minimal services (no coffee stand, no lounge). But it’s very nicely restored. Boarding for the early-morning Amtrak Cascades was handled with efficiency. I want to single out Amtrak employee David, who went out of his way to help when my husband lost his phone. We didn’t find it, but David continued to hunt for it even after we boarded our train and texted me to update. Very generous! Thank you!

King Street Station to Pike Place Market for $15 plus tip!
There is a taxi stand right outside the King Street Amtrak Train Station. Uber was going to cost about $30 to go to the Pike Place Market area. I asked several drivers how much it would cost to go to Pike Place Market. I found on that would take is for $15. I gave him a $5 tip.

    Very neat station.
Nice clean station. Only drawback is nothing for stores built in. And Amtrak doesn't have a lounge for first class passengers like Chicago and Los Angeles and many others do, hopefully one day they will.

Nice train station. I recommend taking the bus to downtown Seattle. It's a little cheaper than an Uber.

We rode Amtrak to Seattle for the Labor Day weekend. King Street Station is Seattle's historic train depot. The restored ceiling in the main waiting area is beautiful but the passenger experience using this station is very bad. The area for cars to drop off passengers was designed for horse and buggy. There is no circular drive so cars have to execute a 3 point turn inside a cramped parking lot to exit after dropping off passengers. The scene is a giant cluster. One solution might be to walk but this too is user unfriendly. I saw a tourist making multiple trips carrying his luggage up and down the pedestrian staircase to Jackson St but the path was blocked by drunks and addicts sleeping on the stairs. When this man finally had stepped over the bodies with his large heavy bags hoisted in the air, the doors at the bottom of the stairs were locked. The ultimate customer service failure however is no coffee not even vending machine coffee. The ears of the managers of King Street Station might have been burning this Labor Day since numerous passengers were cussing them and asking how is it possible there is no coffee at the main train station of the US city most associated with coffee. I'll put it more politely and say there's room for improvement.

There is nothing here. It's beautifully restored space BUT there is no restaurant, coffee shop, cafe nothing. Bag storage is available but the station charges $10 per bag. I should think passengers traveling sleeper class should have complimentary bag storage.
When our train was called everyone rushed forward. Station employees did not separate the coach passengers from the sleeper car passengers. Passengers in Sleeper are supposed to board first.
Be aware they do not let you go into the station without a ticket for a train leaving on the date you want to enter the station. People waiting to welcome arriving family and friends are kept outside the station. What is that all about. The ticket checker mad us feel like criminals when he rudely DEMANDED to see our tickets. It was so unwelcoming.

But what they have done renovation-wise is stunning, having brought the station interiors back to its original grandeur. The exterior is quite plain, except for the huge clock tower, but the interiors are exquisite, almost like a white wedding cake, except you're inside it. When we first entered, we noticed a balcony-like area high above, overlooking the main hall. We eventually found the way to it, using the elevator (NOT the stairs), and it provides exceptional views of the station interior and main hall. For rail fans, this is a MUST-SEE, hidden gem. Although the station had no services, just a few steps outside the station is an elegant, upscale, modern Hilton hotel with an excellent sit-down bar/lounge and restaurant. That's were we had a good (not cheap) meal and beverages prior to our Amtrak journey.

How does one review a station? Are readers looking for comments on the aesthetics or on the efficiency of the services running out of the building?

This building is beautiful. Impressive. Statuesque. Can you tell that I was impressed?! It was the expanse of marble, the high ceilings, those iconic wooden pew benches that go on for ever.

I couldn't help but be reminded of the movies - the black and white ones where assignations would take place, always under the clock or, in the more modern and action packed world of Hollywood, where chases would take place and end up in the station with a shoot out - all that was lacking was the sweeping marble staircase.

The glass globe hanging lights, high windows, arches, it is a photographer's dream frankly, before we even begin to talk about catching a train.

Beautiful and vintage, yes, but also updated to comply with the modern age, with clean toilets, customer services desk, digital information boards and free Wi-Fi within the station - slow, you won't be streaming, but free.

We were taking the Coast Starlight train as far as Portland - one of those seemingly iconic American things we wanted to experience. Train travel in the UK can be expensive, uncomfortable, time consuming and frustrating, so we were interested to see what it would be like across the pond.

So, to the efficiency - Amtrak had a temporary / portable desk within the main hall, with signs directing passengers to check in and have their seats assigned. There were ropes delineating queues but, frankly, on a Sunday morning, the numbers didn't warrant it.

Staff were friendly and informative, explaining the ticket we were given and directing us to which door we would join the train from.

When the time came, an announcement was made and another member of staff checked our tickets, let us through the door (7, no 9 & 3/4 here I'm afraid) and let us know which carriage we needed to board.

All very efficient. As I said, Sunday morning and quiet, but it looked like a slick system that would work equally well with greater numbers.

Arrived at this station following 46-hour trip on 'Empire Builder' from Milwaukee. A clean, well kept, vintage facility with helpful workers. Taxi's available and numerous just outside exit doors. We also came here to board an Amtrak train southbound to Sacramento. As we were early, we waited on the big benches inside the station. Conductors helped us validate tickets and directed us to appropriate trains.

Inside is beautiful and clean. However, no cafe, convenience store, or other retail. Security staff keeps vagrants out. Ticket counter and baggage check. No Amtrak lounge.
Just a place to board and and get off trains. About a block's walk from LINK light rain station.

About a block's walk away (and an escalator or elevator ride) is Chinatown, with many eating places.
