SAM has been the center for world-class visual arts in the Pacific Northwest since 1933. Visit SAM to see a museum carved into the city, as much a part of Seattle's landscape and personality as the coffee, rain, mountains, Pike Place Market, and the Space Needle. Our three distinct locations celebrate the region's position as a crossroads where east meets west, urban meets natural, local meets global. Our collections, installations, special exhibitions, and programs feature art from around the world and build bridges between cultures and centuries.

Very nice assortment of aboriginal art along with some contemporary pieces as well. I loved that the museum seemed to have representation from each continent.

The "tree" suspended from the entrance hall ceiling is the first surprise but there are quite a few others: the African coffin car, the resin mouse, the Porcelain Room. You can't but appreciate a museum not much more than 75 years old that offers such...More

We were very impressed with SAM. We thoroughly enjoyed their permanent collection. The masks and art from the Pacific NW were very interesting. My wife felt that the annotations/explanations were very insightful.

This place was amazing. There are a mix of art styles and genres that shouk cover something for everyone. I have been twice and the museum has never been so crowded that I have been unable too see exhibits or wait long periods of time.

Overpriced and slim pickings. Building is new, but the collection seems mundane. No evidence of intelligent life here.

I spent a leisurely morning browsing the art exhibits. Great selection to meet the varied interests of everyone. Plenty of video monitors to give you insight into the artists perspectives. Nice cafe to take a break too!

The Haida and Tlingit pipes are amazing. Beautifully carved. They really make you think about the native culture and what the people may have been like. The museum overall had a very quiet and subdued feel unlike many other large city museums I have been...More

We only had an hour, 90 minutes would have been less of a rush. Two hours would have been too much.
