My wife and I visited Skagway on May 25, 2022. It was a beautiful, sunny day with temperatures in the mid 60s. We walked from downtown toward Reid Falls and the cemetery over a 2 mile walk in direct sunlight. By the time we reached our destination, we were a little dusty and hot. We entered the cool woods and took the trail to the falls. In a couple of minutes our walk in the sun was forgotten. This waterfall is awesome. It is easily over 100 feet from top to bottom and is a series of falls. You can get right next to it for a great photo. Reid Falls should be on your must do list for Skagway, just below the train ride to White Pass Summit and The Historic Park. The cemetery pales in comparison to Reid Falls. And if you are not energetic enough to walk 5 miles round trip, you can ride a city bus out and back from Downtown Skagway.

We walked to the falls from the cruise port. It was a 2 mile trip (4 round trip) that is mainly flat to the base of the falls. At the base, is an old mining cemetery with some cool history written on a large plaque right before you enter. There are signs to help you easily find the falls from the cemetery. It is a fairly easy uphill walk to the falls, but there is a bench along the way if you need a break it is very short (less than 1/4 of a mile). The falls are beautiful but can get really crowded as the tour buses arrive. We got there at the same time as a tour bus and just waited around for them to leave so we could get some decent pictures without tons of people unknowingly photobombing the background. On the return home, we went one block over to walk through the old downtown area. Feels kind of wild west with about 20-25 jewelry stores, restaurants, and souvenir shops. We took about 4 hours total to see the falls and walk through old town. We had time so we did the Yukatania point trail afterwards. It was pretty, but not as cool as the falls; if you can only pick one, pick Reid falls.

Tucked away at least 2 miles from town and above the old cemetery is this beautiful breathtaking place of tranquility. My 2nd time in many years going back but just as stunning as the 1st time.
Little tricky to walk amongst the rocks and tree Vines but well worth the trip from town, either by $5 shuttle or lengthy walk next to the train tracks.
Highly recommend

This is a very beautiful and easy place to visit when in Skagway. We were in Skagway on a cruise. Walk to the bus area and call for the on demand shuttle. For $5/pp it will take you to the cemetery. From there just follow signs to the falls. About a 5 min hike mostly up hill. Look around the cemetery too. There are some interesting stories. When done call the shuttle and for $5/pp they will take you back to port or drop off anywhere in town. If you like walking, the cemetery is a 2.5 mile walk from the port. Cheap, easy, and beautiful excursion to do on your own.

Would recommend visiting the graveyard and lower Reid Falls if you already did the White Mountain train. Got to Skagway on RCL Quantum of the Seas. Ship docks a good 1/3 mile from beginning of town. From there, another 1.5 to 2 miles to Reid falls. On way, you strolll through old Skagway town and it's charming residential neighborhood. Once you leave town, you walk on a dusty road as you pass the trainyard on the way to the graveyard, might want to wear a mask to not inhale dust. There is an outhouse type of restroom at the graveyard. My recommendation is to rent a bike to explore town and get to graveyard vice walk or catch the local shuttle for $5. I did see a bike rental shop in the middle of town. Only problem though is you need to do a short 5 minute hike to reach falls as it would be difficult to take a bike to falls.

Lovely , nature at it's best, unspoiled and an easy walk up from the road side. It is a little hidden away so you don't see it till up are upon it but you hear the water running first. We did this as part of a touring was very pleased we did. Lovely spot to rest a while.

We were originally scheduled for the Ocean Raft Adventure, but it cancelled due to inclement weather. I'm actually glad it did. My husband and I spent the day instead hiking through Skagway on our way to Lower Reid Falls. We entered an ancient cemetery that, to me, was a unique photography opportunity. Towards the back of the cemetery we picked up the trail leading to the falls. I love hiking through wooded areas anyway, but this was a special treat. The falls did not disappoint. As an added bonus, this excursion didn't cost us a cent. Our visit was six years ago. The date of March '22 is inaccurate, but it wouldn't let me choose the correct date.

You can walk from the cruise ship down the main street and follow it around a curve. there will be a bridge but dont go over the bridge. There will be a sign for the cemetery, it is by the railroad tracks with a few old train cars. go look at the old train cars and keep following the gravel road and you will come to the cemetery. walk up to the far corner of the cemetery and there will be a trail to the fallls. there will also be a sign. it is a short walk and is easy. There are restrooms at the parking lot. it is a lovely waterfall and the old cemetery is nice too.

Visiting off of a cruise- we walked from the ship which turned out to be a hike! About 2.5 miles each way and it was worth it! We were lucky to have gorgeous warm weather, boots and hiking sticks. We are older and always bring portable sticks though this hike really didn't need them. When you get to the Gold Rush Cemetery there is a large board with stories about many of the people who are buried in the cemetery. Very interesting read! Then a walk thru the cemetery which has been kept up respectfully. The walk to the falls was marked and not hard to do. Once we got to the base of the falls, we sat on the rocks and enjoyed! We had it to ourselves for awhile and took lots of lovely pictures. If you look along the edge of the river you can see gold flecks in the sun. Beautiful, peaceful place.

Definitely a must-stop if visiting Skagway. This falls is relatively small, but still beautiful, and not a difficult hike to reach. My family of four actually WALKED from the main town to the falls, - about 1.5 miles. The last quarter mile (before reaching the cemetery and path to the falls), is beside an on Train depot - which itself is kind of interesting to see. My main suggestion (if your simply touring) is to ensure you buy the $5 day pass for the Shuttle - that way you can get to this area with only minor walking to/from the main city area.

How far is the water fall from the cruise port? Thank you!
Written 16 June 2019
It’s about a 30 - 45 minute walk from the cruise port to the falls. It’s along mainly level ground with just a little elevation as you near the falls.

Is trail handicapped accessible?

Hi guys, we won’t have transport and only have 2 hours returning from a tour to catch the fast Ferry to Haines, which we cannot miss. From Skagway port, will 2 house be long enough to go to the cemetery and falls ?
