Morning, hike to ‘Mt. Marathon’ trail. The trail is steep but a view of the ‘Resurrection’ bay visible on the way is truly amazing. It should take 3 to 4 hours to do it. Besides wilderness, the flora & fauna display on the way looks like God’s own viewing gallery.

Hell, I'd take the Jeep trail up and down as it really is a pretty little hike towering above the town of Seward. The Trailhead start on Monroe Street and will plant you at the base of the mountain where you will hike up a jeep trail through the forest for a few minutes. After, you'll find yourself on a... Offering beautiful, changing views throughout your walk, with a lot of bonuses composed of mainly salmon-berries, this mountain might fit (almost) all hikers: you may go on- or off-track to explore the area. Jeep trail is a wide, dirt road that climbs up the mountain (it starts steep, but don't give up - it becomes easier...), and is accessible for... More

My husband and our 16 year-old daughter decided to hike up Mt. Marathon while our other daughter (12) and I stayed back at the cottage to cook dinner. They came back so dirty, but with the biggest smiles! They said it was quite a challenge (especially since they took a wrong turn at one point), but so worth it. The... More

Mt. Marathon dominates the scenery in and around Seward. It is the location of the famous annual Fourth of July foot race held every year in Seward. This annual event involves running to the top and back down in less than one hour! Last year's record was under 50 minutes. This event fills the Seward area totally and completely. Truly... More

It is a docile looking mountain but don't let it fool you. Go with someone who know a thing or two about the mountain. There are sections of steep climbs. The views are absolutely breath-taking but you are never far away from a mis-step. Take a good hiking shoes and be prepared to be exhausted. You have to be in... More

Three of us hiked the mountain, it was hard and fun. It rained and then the sun came out and it was beautiful, at the Bowl, there is snow and a spectacular view.

Attempted the hikers trail which starts at 1st and Monroe streets. The only parking available was on the residential streets. The hike starts on a steep jeep trail and gets you a free stair master workout. This didn't bother me as I was in decent physical condition. The waterfall off to the side was quite beautiful. But then the jeep... More

There are actually two trails up Marathon...the one the locals talk about which some drunk dude did in 62 minutes and the one they ask the tourists to take because the first one is EXTREME in all capital letters. Even the "hike" version of the trail is strenuous, but the views are absolutely worth it! It's broken up into three... More
