Stupendous Li'l Beach

Stupendous little beach, good for sun, bodysurfing, some snorkeling. Silky white sand, crystal blue water. Can feel a little crowded.

This beach is gorgeous! It's not huge but we didn't find it crowded. The sand is the softest I've ever walked on the sea is a beautiful turquoise blue. The snorkelling was great and easy, we could stand with our masks in the water if we wanted to. There are some rocks and coral not far off the beach (you... More

There is limited parking but you can park along the side of the road and a walk down some lava rock to get to the sandy beach. Beautiful turquoise water. Waves can come in so not very good for little ones. There is snorkelling near the rocks(I saw a turtle there). Lots of boogie boarders. They sell shave ice there... More

This is a rare white sand beach on the big island and a very nice one at that. It isn't very big and it is popular, so parking is in high demand. About a mile past the airport in the national park. There are full change rooms and washrooms which are nice and there was a food truck too with... More

Used to be accessible only by 4WD, no open to the public with full facilities but much bigger crowds. Beautiful water, but shorebreak can be punishing when big swells hit.

So good we went there twice! Pros: Paved parking, changing rooms, free shower and sometimes a food truck is there. Great sandy beach, good surf and spots of Marine life (Saw a large mama seal, turtles and even a goat but not a lot of fish) Cons: Not perfect sandy beach (there are some lava rocks - some movable) so... This is a very quiet beach but you'll have to hike in about 20 minutes. Good for snorkeling but do not go out in high surf. Take care of your possessions -- my beach bag has been searched while I've been in the water half the times I've visited.

This beach is truly beautiful. It's not too difficult to find (the road is across the street from the sign for the Veteran's Cemetery). We managed to snag a spot right up front, which was really appreciated. We also liked that there was a real bathroom close by. The water is gorgeous and the beach is sandy with few rocks.... More

When visiting Kona, Hawaii, this is a MUST SEE! I loved, loved, loved this beach. It is the most beautiful on the big island without getting off of the paved road. Be aware that it is very rocky so wear good sturdy sandals. The current is strong and there is no lifeguard so be careful to avoid getting caught in... More

I sat at a picnic table in the shade while my wife went swimming on the beach. There was a monk seal that beached itself while it was molting. It apparently was there for quite some time as it was marked off and there was a marine biologist (may have been George Costanza) guarding and observing it.
