Paid about $100 pp to play this course which is obviously about half price relative to other Hawaii golf courses. Its playable but poorly maintained and not very much fun. Pros- staff is friendly and peacocks are unique and its not very busy.

This course is located on the Belt road and is up the mountain a ways. So when the weather is iffy a better chance of rain. I played about 5 holes in the rain. Otherwise OK The course is not like the resort courses. Fairways,...More

Read many mixed reviews on this course before booking a time via TeeOff.com. Front counter employee & starter were very polite but after that I don't have anything else to recommend. The course overall was very poorly maintained including bunkers which have been classified as...More

This golf course isn't the greatest if you're looking for pristine, well manicured greens, and is not the professional course like Mauna Kea, but we had a great time here. Much cheaper than a Mauna Kea course, with peacocks around every corner! All in all,...More

Decided on Makalei because of price ($80 vs $120+ at other courses), which was a mistake. In hindsight, I wish I had paid the extra $40-50 and went to Kona Country Club. Where do I start? Enter the clubhouse to a surly, slow woman behind...More

My husband and I played Makalei Golf Course on November 28, 2017. We throughly enjoyed this course. The layout and terrain favors a straight hitter. Since the course is laid out on the side of the mountain, there are many fairways with slopes which means...More

A favorite place to golf on the Big Island. It's up country, so cooler than Kona, with amazing views. See the pictures. Also, it used to be a peacock farm, so there's beautiful birds roaming free everywhere. My funny husband said, "The picture of the...More
