Lovely course covering the side of a mountain. Course is kept in decent shape and is a favorite with the local population. Staff is friendly and helpful. Large driving range at the top of the course provides plenty of room for large number of players. Only downside is the restaurant/bar closes daily at 3PM. Seems like a missed revenue opportunity... ***CAUTION*** We were waiting for our ride to pick us up after playing. I explained to them the ride was coming from Kona and were only a few minutes away as I had just spoke with them on the phone. They said they wanted to lock the gate and close up. We then had to walk from the club house... More

This is delightful course to play. The course is well maintained and very challenging and I really enjoyed it. The peacocks and pheasants are very cool and the views overlooking the ocean are impressive. I would highly recommend playing a round of golf here.

Built into the side of a mountain, so elevation changes and side hill lies abound. Fairways and greens in decent shape. Holes were interesting and unique, but fair. It was easy for me to walk on as a single on a Friday morning in December. Not upscale, but fairly priced.

After playing three great courses on the Kohala coast we were in for a big turnaround. Mike in the golf shop was friendly and helpful as was Nathan the starter. Then our odyssey began. They have completely rearranged the sequence of holes since we last played here. The GPS doesn't work anymore. Hole #9 used to be #16. They said... More

This is a fun course and a great value compared to the tracks on the beach. It is challenging and will meet any golfers needs. The wild birds that live here ad to its charm. There are a couple of ocean views but you are high up a hill so you are not going to see many. The club house... More

The course is beautiful, fun, challenging and the peacocks on the course are amazing. We liked that for the most part you cannot see the hole next to you. Each holes is a different experience and you can see the ocean from a good portion of them. Definitely arrive early if possible to spend some time at the driving range.... More

I chose this to be the first course to play on the big island, purely on rankings and cost, then play higher ranked and more expensive courses later in the week. However this proved to be the best value for money of my stay. From check in to drinks after the game the whole experience was great. The pro checked... More

This very nice course is up the hill from the Kona airport. The course itself is up and down from between around 2000 feet of elevation to about 3000 feet elevation. The carts are gas because electric carts would not get you there. The views start at the driving range where you look out over the ocean. It is the... More

Very nice golf course that is quite different than the usual resort operations on the Big Island. Our golf outing went great thanks to the staff at Makalei. Hilly course with bent greens in excellent condition. The clubhouse is a bit Spartan, but the course is the real draw. It is located quite a bit away from the main tourist... More
