Built into the side of a mountain, so elevation changes and side hill lies abound. Fairways and greens in decent shape. Holes were interesting and unique, but fair. It was easy for me to walk on as a single on a Friday morning in December. Not upscale, but fairly priced.

After playing three great courses on the Kohala coast we were in for a big turnaround. Mike in the golf shop was friendly and helpful as was Nathan the starter. Then our odyssey began. They have completely rearranged the sequence of holes since we last played here. The GPS doesn't work anymore. Hole #9 used to be #16. They said... More

This is a fun course and a great value compared to the tracks on the beach. It is challenging and will meet any golfers needs. The wild birds that live here ad to its charm. There are a couple of ocean views but you are high up a hill so you are not going to see many. The club house... More

The course is beautiful, fun, challenging and the peacocks on the course are amazing. We liked that for the most part you cannot see the hole next to you. Each holes is a different experience and you can see the ocean from a good portion of them. Definitely arrive early if possible to spend some time at the driving range.... More

I chose this to be the first course to play on the big island, purely on rankings and cost, then play higher ranked and more expensive courses later in the week. However this proved to be the best value for money of my stay. From check in to drinks after the game the whole experience was great. The pro checked... More

This very nice course is up the hill from the Kona airport. The course itself is up and down from between around 2000 feet of elevation to about 3000 feet elevation. The carts are gas because electric carts would not get you there. The views start at the driving range where you look out over the ocean. It is the... More

Very nice golf course that is quite different than the usual resort operations on the Big Island. Our golf outing went great thanks to the staff at Makalei. Hilly course with bent greens in excellent condition. The clubhouse is a bit Spartan, but the course is the real draw. It is located quite a bit away from the main tourist... More

This is an amazing golf course, carved into the side of a lush rainforest at a cool (& steep) elevation. Buy peacock food at the pro shop, and plan to take plenty of photos -- in between tee-ing off on some of the most challenging and fun holes you've ever played. Well-maintained all year round, don't miss this public course... More

We loved our round of golf in this higher altitude, lush, cooler, wildlife, venue. We paid under $60 each for a round of golf with a cart. We paid $50 for club rentals that came with 4 sleeves of balls. Our tee time was about 10am on a Tuesday and we were able to play with just the two us with... More

I was looking to kill an afternoon around Kona and was lured to this course by a low rate on the Golf Now app. Unfortunately, I couldn’t book it online so close to the tee time. So I paid the rack rate, definitely not worth it. This is a local course, not the higher end resort course you expect to... More
