    Beautiful beach
We stayed across from this beach and the first few weeks we had a nice white beach. Then after a storm with strong winds we had a rocky beach with no sand! I would have liked to stay longer to see when the sand washed in again.

    Intense Waves for Body Surfing
This seemed to be a very popular beach for families. The waves were severe and the lifeguards (when on duty) heavily warned everyone to be careful of the breaks. We were told this place sends people to the hospital, so have fun but be careful! Our teenage boys had a blast in the waves!

    Clear waters & fun times
Great beach. Awesome for swimming, snorkling and boogie boarding. Watch out when it gets windy though - waves kicked up and dump on the sand. Watch for the awesome local - Honu. Services: Lifeguard Parking: Limited, even with the new lot (under construction) Local kids were a bit of jerks Would recommend: Yes Would re-patronize: Yes

Small beach with lots of activity around. Safe and guarded public beach in Kona, HI
It is a small beach with waves to stand and some to surf. It is full of visitors with families and kids. Surrounded by shopping areas, lodging and restaurants. One of the top 10 beaches in Hawaii that has a life guard attached for safety.

    Top location, service and food
This place is right next to a wonderful beach. You can dine with a view of people swimming during sunset, with the sound of the ocean in the background. The service was amazing, despite us getting in without a reservation at the bar. The food is fantastic, especially the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer.

    Magical!
Small beach, but amazing waves!! If you want to boogie board, this is where locals and tourists go! The waves are huge, and fun to even float in. I wouldn’t recommend for kids or people who aren’t comfortable with big waves. Fun to even watch people ride the waves and watch the sunset.

This beach was crazy. The sand comes and goes depending on recent storms. I've never seen anything like it. And it was beautiful

Yes, a beautiful beach to watch the sunset from, very easy to get to. However, I have been surfing for over 25 years and thought I knew and respected the ocean surf. I decided to boogie board this beach and ended up with a severe concussion, whiplash, nerve damage, and extensive hospital bills. Had to go to the ER after a wave threw me into the hard pack sand. The ER staff told me this Beach’s name there is “Tragic Sands Beach” because they get so many people with broken necks from that one little beach. They said I was lucky. Ironically, while I was at the ER, another woman came in with a neck broken in two places from the same beach and was life flighted out. They have standard small signs posted at the beach but they are too small and don’t tell you how dangerous this beach really is and was told by the hospital staff that this is the third most dangerous beach in Hawaii. I believe it. The waves are more powerful than they look and the sand is hard packed on top of lava. Be careful, it’s a wonderful beach to visit but use extreme caution when body surfing, boogie boarding or anything of that nature. It’s been 8 months since my accident there and I still am recovering and unable to work.

This beach was a long walk from my hostel but I felt safe walking on the shoulder/pedestrian lane on alii road all the way. Today was very cloudy and occasionally drizzly, but plenty of families were still there. I was amazed by how big the waves were for such a small area! Great for boogie boarding but they aren’t for the faint of heart. I’m a pretty decent swimmer and still got tossed a couple of times. Not a lot of sand space for lounging either but that was fine.

The only people in the water are 18year-old local boys are n their boogie boards. I am an experienced ocean swimmer and it is not possible to safely enter or exit the ocean during the winter months when the sand ‘magically’ disappears. We spent a pretty penny to stay in the condo across the street thinking we’d be able to swim here every day. Haven’t been able to get in the water once in the 10 days we’ve been here
