Ellmau is a wonderful village, it has three supermarket, three banks, a pharmacy, a shop that sells all toiletries, cafes and resteraunts and a large out door swimming pool with slides. The people are friendly and ther is always something going on.
Ideally located between the cities of Salzburg and Innsbruck it's a great place for walking and skiing. You can take a cable car to the top of the Hartkaiser and walk to the next cable car In Scheffau. If you want to catch a train...More
Ellmau is a fantastic town to visit in winter and summer. Always great skiing through over 300 km of slopes. But then comes summer where there is still an abundance of things to do. Cycling, golfing, hiking,!water parks etc
Do take a trip on the cable car/gondola to the top of the mountain Hartzkaiserbahn. We did a trip there for about 3 hours and the views were fantastic. The woodland village trail for children was special.
Family friendly, excellent skiing school (Top Ski School) and breathtaking scenes. We have been there two winters in a row and we are extremely satisfied. First time we were there we were absolute beginners and did a high end hotel. Second time we already knew...More

Dear Chris and Clive,
Ellmau is a beautiful alpine resort. My understanding is that you will be travelling during winter, so I will describe the winter setup (we've never been there in the summer - yet). Indeed in the winter it is mainly geared up for skiing. The tobogganing run you are referring to is in the nearby resort of Going. There is a free ski bus system that runs constantly from Ellmau to Going and the other resorts - Scheffau and Soll. For the tobogganing run in Going you will need Bus Line D. Aside from skiing and tobogganing, you may take the gondola up to the top of the Hartkaiser mountain for some scenery seeing and while there you can also see the Ellmi's winter world (mainly a kids attraction). But most of all, while you're there you can have a very nice lunch in the Bergkaiser restaurant (good value for money). There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Ellmau itself, so you will be able to go out. I'm afraid though, that in terms of other things to do my agenda is limited as we are avid skiers and every time we go there we are up on the slopes all day, every day. We've been tobogganing in Ellmau (me and our nine years old daughter) a few times early in the evening after skiing, at the bottom of the Votterstat slope by the Top Ski School. That was fun indeed, but we walked up the slope as the lift is only for skiing (and it was closed by then anyway). If you don't mind that, you'll have plenty of fun. That's all I can say really, but the people are very friendly and the village is nice. I'm sure that you'll find many ways to spend your time even if you're not skiing. I hope you all have a great time.
