St Oswald was a king in Northumbria and would no doubt be surprised to find a church named after him in the Austria Alps. The nave is a beautiful, cool quiet place to sit, think and reflect. The churchyard is amazingly well maintained and the...More

Just go and see. Located in the central part of the village. But Alpbach is not only about the church. The village itself is charming. Flowers, flowers and more flowers on balconies. I mean all balconies. And the houses are the same. Why? Check that...More

A very pretty church inside. We were lucky enough to hear 3 musicians practising when we looked round. The gravestones are worth wandering through.

History of church dates to monks travelling with relics from our Northumberland King, St Oswald - on a pilgrimage to Rome. Very spiritual.

So well kept with every grave light up with its own lantern every night. Stay anywhere near here and you are right in the thick of everything Alpbach has to offer.

The church is one of the most beautiful and the graveyard is extremely well looked after. It is certainly worth a visit when in the village.

Despite being such a prominent landmark in Alpbach village, it always surprises us how few people ever venture inside the church grounds let alone the church itself. Find out how this little valley in Austria is closely linked to England - for nearly 1,000 years!...More

We could see the candlelit churchyard of St Oswald's from our hotel room and walked through regularly on our wanders around the village - and it never failed to touch my heart. The interior of this beautiful church is absolutely magnificent and was a wonderful...More
