We loved St. Gilgen's town plaza which has a few souvenir shops, an ice cream stand and a couple of restaurants. We also really enjoyed renting an electric boat for 30 minutes. It cost around 18 euros and was very worthwhile to be able to...More

During our stay in St. Gilgen we visited the main town square named Mozartplatz (though according to the locals Mozart never visited this town). It was just 5 minutes walk from our hotel and the famous Wolfgangsee lake is a 10 minutes walk from here....More

It was so nice to see this amazing square in the sunset when all the tourists were gone by the end of the day. A must!

Main square in the town with traditional Austrian architecture and balconies full of flowers. So so pretty and really nice just to walk round and look. Some nice little gift shops and a good place to spend an hour or two.

Very pretty setting for the Mozart statue in front of the Rat Haus. It would have been lovely to have some music though. All across the town, no music! So, we felt it lacked atmosphere. This is, after all, the birthplace of Mozarts mother. Just...More

The town is extremely pretty with period houses. Many authentic gift shops, restaurants, a beautiful church and exquisite graveyard are also in the town centre. A cablecar operates to the adjacent mountains and a wonderful ferry transports tourists to a number of locations around Lake...More

Set in the utterly lovely mountain resort of St Gilgen, this hotel is simply my favourite hotel in the world. I love the use of simple woolen fabric in decoration, the folk art, the ancient wooden floorboards. The fixtures and fittings are modern, comfortable, they...More

This is a beautiful square and a great venue for a free big band concert on a Wednesday evening in summer. There’s also a lovely statue of a young Mozart playing the violin.

Our hotel overlooked Mozartplatz so we had lovely views from our balconies of the square and adjacent magnificent architecture In the summer there are concerts in the square, the evening one we caught was very good.
