Decided to try this trail. Basically, it was very doable and great scenery. It's quite a ways to the tower and I didn't quite make it but enjoyed the hike anyways

The tower is anazing. You can walk all around it and watch the rock climber attempting to reach the top.

Amazing site to see. It is a little commercialized, but a great place to see! There is a gift shop and an ice cream shop. We didn't pay to go up the road as we needed to get on the road to Mount Rushmore, but...More

The signage says it is 1.25 miles one way. We started from the trailhead at Sylvan Lake. It didn't take long to realize that that mileage had to have been calculated from the parking lot closer to the trail. It was quite deceiving. But after...More

Short hike from needles trailhead. There's rapid elevation gain to ridge to summit. Then some easy scrambling up solid rock to large summit. My opinion, a better hike/climb than Black Elk Peak and less crowded.

The trail it well marked and easy to follow. The views at the end are fantastic. Be aware that you will need to scramble up the rocks to get to the top and good solid hiking shoes are helpful. The trail is almost all uphill...More
