If your into history and have the time make a quick stop and check the stockade out. Self guided tour doesnt take long and the old buildings are interesting. worth the time if your into black hills history.

We were camping at Stockade Lake South, so we pulled in for a quick look around on our way by. The kids liked seeing the cabins and the holes it wall for the guns, and my husband enjoyed reading about the history of the area....More

This is well worth seeing and it is free. Bring the family especially the kids for a step back in time

The tourist stop has gotten a bit rundown over the years. It does give a good visual as to the size of a fort.

The rain finally stopped and we were able to stop and see the stockade. It's a must see for history buffs. Most of the buildings are still in tact and you can walk around the inside of the Fort.

There is a little information about the stockade on the path leading in. The stockade itself is just a quick, maybe 5 minute, attraction. If you're going by and have the time, make the stop. But don't be too broken up if you miss it.

Good quick stop to learn about the settlement of Custer and effects on the native Americans. Lake is pretty. Actual buildings from the original settlement.

There wasn't as much history there as I thought there'd be. No visitor center or interpreters, just the stockade to look at.15-20 minutes max.
