We took a ride on the wildlife loop road in Custer State Park and it was amazing. Just when we thought we weren’t going to see any buffalo, we saw a whole herd hanging out in the mud alongside the road and they were crossing...More

It took about an hour and was relaxing to just look from the car. We saw bison, antelope, coyotes, white tail deer, mule deer, great horned sheep, wild turkeys, magpie, prairie dogs, and an eagle. Good for slow older folks (us after a four hour...More

I never expected to see that many animals in the wild. The herd of buffalo was not only breath taking but with a little imagination gives you a small glimmer of what it must have been like seeing millions of them roaming freely. The wild...More

Buffalo (bison), wild burros, prairie dogs, pronghorns, turkey and deer----what more could you ask for on an 18 mile loop? 100% chance of seeing wildlife.

For those who like to watch the real thing (rather than a zoo or wildlife park) this is a treat! Roaming bison, elk, envelope, deer, prairie dogs, turkeys, and the most engaging feral burros who beg for carrots.

Every time you go out you can't miss seeing some kind of wildlife. Bring some carrots for the burros. You are not supposed to feed them but everybody does and it's so much fun for the kids.

During my last visit I saw well over a hundred roaming bison of all ages, some on the road, antelope, deer, donkeys, prairie dogs, etc. Made me feel better about the park's $20/vehicle for 7 days entrance fee.

The visitor Center is open 8-8 to buy your pass. You place that on your front windshield. You can also buy it at the entrance to the wildlife loop if someone is on duty...if not, there is a self registration. I think the... More

I was there in late Sept / early Oct - it was amazing. Wildlife everywhere. Pick late Sept and watch the Buffalo Stampede - probably one of the best wildlife experiences you can have. . . .
