We spent a few days in the area as part of a road trip, and the scenery was definitely worth seeing. We enjoyed the views, the wildlife, and swimming in Sylvan Lake. Worth the cost of the pass! We had our dog with us, and while pets aren't allowed in many areas and around wildlife, we still had a very... More

Custer State ORk is a beautiful, unspoilt gem We were staying at the local KOA campground . They offered a guided tour of Custer and Rushmoor state parks. The tour provided us with the opportunity to explore and experience the best of the parks, including going to where the bison hung out!!

We were staying at the nearby Beaver Lake Campground and the staff highly recommended the drive around Custer State Park. Drove up and paid the nominal entrance fee, got the animal sighting update from the ranger and headed off into the park on the southern loop. Wow did we see and touch a lot of animals. We got stuck in... More

My husband and I took a road trip to South Dakota recently (Feb 2017...middle of winter). We got really lucky with the weather - sunny, blue skies and decent temps. I had to talk my husband into visiting Custer State Park. I had heard good things and had a suspicion we wouldn't be disappointed. He now says that the visit... More

South Dakota has a list of Great 8 places to visit and this is high on the list. Big skies, scenery, wildlife and friendly locals. I was there for the 51st Buffalo Round Up at the end of Sept. 16. What an amazing spectacle - 1300 wild buffalo heading straight towards you across the open plains followed by 'hollerin' and... More

Drove through Custer State Park as an add on after driving South from Rapid City through the Black Hills National Forest. This area is great for seeing wildlife and the different landscapes SD has to offer. Some areas are heavily forested, some areas are rolling plains. I saw 30+ deer, 1 bison (it's the off season), both of which were... More

We visited Custer State Park in August, 2016. We were literally blown away by how wonderful this state park is! We’ve visited 20 national parks, and this state park is every bit as nice as the nicest of the national parks, just on a smaller scale. It appears that the state has recently spent a lot of money on the... More

We spent the day exploring the park. It has the most incredible wild life and nature viewing. If you are an outdoor enthusiast this is certainly an adventure you need to take in.
