Crescent Park is a linear park along the Mississippi River with a greenway trail leading to the French Market. If you're willing to walk a mile or two, it provides safe, ample and free parking to access the French Quarter. It would probably take longer with traffic to actually drive and park there, paying $20+ per hour than to walk from Crescent Park. I parked at the far end and walked along the greenway to French Market and then Jackson Square and it took maybe 45 minutes with a couple photo stops. A few walkers, joggers and folks walking their dogs were out, but otherwise not crowded at all, compared to the French Quarter. About half way through the park is the rusty rainbow bridge that provides access to another parking area. It's steep, but the top provides nice views of the river and New Orleans skyline. You could park here to cut down on distance but have to take the rusty rainbow up and over the road and railroad tracks. Overall, a great place for a relaxing walk along the river and great for free, easy parking to access the French Quarter.

This is an area that was recently redeveloped. The path was always there and they made it into a "park". There are 3 entrances.
1. Mazant Street at Chartres (Bywater) - There is a free parking lot on the levee. You may walk, bike or drive up at this entrance. This side also has a very small dog park that should be expanded.
2. Piety Street at Chartres (Bywater) - This is known by the name "The Rusty Rainbow". It's a rusted out bridge that goes over the train tracks and is only accessible for the very fit. Do not bring elderly people to this entrance. Walk up only, no bicycle or handicap access. There is a small parking lot here as well, below the levee.
3. N. Peters at Marigny Street (Marigny) - There is only off street parking here, no parking lots. There is an elevator that allows pedestrians and bicycles. There are also stairs for walk up access.
Other tips:
There is very little shade if any in the park, you may want to bring a hat or umbrella.
If you bring your dog, the pavement can be too hot for a dog's feet in the summer time.
The Marigny side is the only grass area, the rest of the park is a walking path. There are picnic tables at the rusty rainbow (Piety St) only. The only bathrooms are on the Marigny Street entrance, there are no other restrooms within the park.
This park could be greatly improved with an expanded dog park, more shade added, more grassy areas for sitting and public restrooms at the Bywater side need to be added.
There are good views of the river. This is the area of the river where all the wharves were that delivered goods into the port of New Orleans, so yes, you will see that some of the old structures are crumbling into the river and are very dangerous and thus no public access. It is a good area for leisurely biking or walking.

Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter, the river walk is so worth to find. You have to climb the good old rusty rainbow to enjoy the trail and the view of the river. Beautifully kept, was a favorite place to relax.

First time visitor to Crescent Park and wanted to let other first timers know how to access the park. The park is about 1.25 miles long, stretching along the Mississippi River, and is bordered by the river on one side and a concrete flood wall on the other. Access is via pedestrian bridges that go over the flood wall. There are three access points (pedestrian bridges) - one at each end of the park and one partway through. Access points at the ends also have elevators for those on bikes, etc.
Much quieter than the FQ Riverwalk, I was a little uneasy at first. Many others there were also solo...either walking, jogging, a few bicyclists...so I wasn't alone. I get the feeling that more residents use this park than visitors, especially to get their exercise in.
I entered via the bridge near the FQ end, walked the path to the Piety bridge, crossed the bridge and walked over to Satsuma for a salad. It was a peaceful way to spend the morning and would do it again in a heartbeat. The bridge near the FQ end is high up and provide a great view.

If you start from Market on river walk, you will come into this park along the way. Great view of river. Nice place to eat lunch if you wanted too.

Great park with a walk path along the mighty Mississippi River. I like to go around sunset to see the beautiful skyline and sun sink below the horizon.

Didn’t know this park existed until we took a bike tour. What a neat area and view of the river and skyline. Cool out of the way place to go.

This park follows the Miss River and it has become a staple with us locals. Beautifully designed for bikes and pedestrians, local fauna and wildlife abound. Perfect for jogging, a stroll, a picnic, or an early evening drinking wine by the river.

Came here with my daughter to get a photograph of the crescent city. It offers a wonderful view, and my photos came out great. It's very neat and clean area. But, the day we went, it was very hot, and it was early afternoon. Not the ideal time to go there. They really did a great job with the park. It's along the Mississippi River.

Cresent park starts just about a 100 yards past the end of the French Market. There is a stairway (or elevator) over the wall that runs along the river between the railroad tracks and the Market, there is another "rainbow" bridge further down the road but no elevator there. Inside the park there is basically a walking, biking, jogging path along the river, planted with flowers and shrubs with benches and statues. The park has incorporated a couple of the old docks and warehouse locations, the one near the Market end has bathrooms, drinking fountains and some swings where you can sit and watch the ships, tugs and water go by. It is free and if you walk the entire distance of the path along the river it is a little over a mile round trip--which I walked every morning I was there. The park does close at 7 pm every night. There is a parking area at the far end of the park (south? end) with no stairs required to enter--the way to enter if you want to use a bike.

There's an elevator??
Seriously, the park is pretty short for bike riding. Unless it's for kids to learn.
