Good alternative to Bourbon

Great live music and a much better option to Bourbon Street! We stopped in at the Blue Nile for two live bands, highly recommend this area.

Not much to see during the day. I've heard it has a good night life. But I was very excited ROI see this part of the city, disappointed.

Wow, what a refreshing change from the debauchery of Bourbon Street. Here, they have several bars with live music without the madness of Bourbon Street. Enjoy a cocktail (or dinner, like we had at Three Muses) and authentic NOLA jazz while not worrying about someone "throwing up on your shoes". Definitely our favorite NOLA destination for fun and music!

Make sure you visit Frenchmen Street at some point during your trip! It is so much cleaner than Bourbon Street and feels a bit more authentic. So many bars with great live music! I highly recommend Bamboulas!!

Has a great night going bar to bar listening to some great musicians. Much better than Bourbon St! No one charged covers and variety was awesome.

We went here after our first night was spent at the overrated Bourbon st. Less crowded better music nicer people. The Clubs have more space and bands were better. Not sure if that was the case only on that day but I would highly recommend going there instead of Bourbon st

Lots of music and small restaurants. Blues are played earlier in the evening, funky area and you have to be comfortable mingling with all types of people. A lot of outdoor art as well

We went here to see the Dirty Dozen Brass band at Maison. The area has plenty of bars which the locals frequent. Its a very eclectic area with all walks of life. Great place to hang and people watch

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
