Increasingly touristy but still lots of locals around, enjoying some great music. You’ll find different types of jazz, from the more freestyle to the more commercial stuff. Very enjoyable to hop from bar to bar. Recommend approaching the street from the South via the French...More

What an amazing place to visit! The whole street was just alive! Brass band playing in the street, great bars and restaurants! Something happening everywhere, even on a week night it was a blast!! I would most definitely recommend this over Bourbon Street!!! Much more...More

Walked onto Frenchmen and heard a Brass Band playing! Many good clubs and restaurants. Good blues band playing anywhere you go! Will be BACK! Just a more laid back vibe than Bourbon Street.

Loved walking this short street, filled with bars offering free music (just buy a drink) from late afternoon till wee hours. Heard it described as "the way Bourbon Street used to be", before it became too touristy.

A smaller Bourbon Street atmosphere but way better. The bars had great musicians playing in them. Great food at the various bars. Everyone was friendly and having a good time. I would rather pub crawl here than Bourbon St. Anytime.

What an awesome area! Great live music, and no cover charge just purchase required. We stopped into a few places, but decided to stop and stay in the Spotted Cat. It was busy with a constant ebb and flow of customers. Later in the evening,...More

My friend and I ventured onto Frenchman on a Sunday night in jeans and sweatshirts, looking for a couple drinks and live music. We had a blast at BLUE NILE and NEGRIL CAFE, both places were phenomenal with the drinks and live performers. Blue Nile...More

Great place to visit in the evening, if you're interested in Jazz or other type of music. Lots of clubs. And, the two evenings we walked around there there was a live band, playing incredible music.

I am not a bar hopper in the slightest, but seeing as how it was Halloween and I have never been to New Orleans, some new friends showed me and my guy around Frenchmen. Oh, my. Wow. It was the perfect time to wander this...More

Frenchmen street is the place to go if you want to enjoy great live jazz music. So many small places, bars and good restaurants.

Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward,
the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely
residential. Of course, folks around here love to go
out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere
in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the
festivities, well then so much the better! Home to
some of the most revered live music venues in New
Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining

I didn’t go on day time, but... it’s more about bars and jazz, not sure if it will be fun for a 17 YO. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help! Take the Voodoo tour with him!
