Eclectic without the crazy viral video crowd seekers.

Nice chill area. Great music with out the clown antics of bourbon street. A nice change of pace for your experience.

Frenchman Street has lots of restaurants and shops. Great live music is found everywhere! Thursday to Sunday evenings there is an artisan craft market that showcases many talented artists.

This long market reminds me so much of the Soulard market in St. Louis, but cleaner. The little merchant shops were clean and so well kept. Each salesperson was so polite and helpful. I found the prices to be extremely reasonable and most less than Amazon! There was an author and a film creator there with booths to highlight their... More

This is a very lively street and the place to be for music. Some great restaurants too. I went to Snug Harbor to hear The Stanton Moore Trio. We sat upstairs and had great view of the musicians and sound was excellent. If you like jazz, this is where you should visit. We really enjoyed this trio. All were extremely... More

There are quite a few bars on Frenchmen with live music. We found some of the venues to be too crowded for us, but we got into one bar and really enjoyed the food and music.

My family and I visited New Orleans for the first time Tue 4/18 - Sun 4/23. During our visit we went to Frenchmen St twice. On Wed night we were there between about 10pm and Midnight. The place was jumping with great jazz in a number of small clubs but also all kinds of street vendors and artists selling unusual... More

This is the "locals version" of the French Quarter. Plenty of bars, restaurants and great music packed into this area. Easy to get to by pedicab from the French Quarter - or a nice walk from there if you're up to it. Recommend this place if you want all of the vibes and feel of the French Quarter minus the... More

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
