This was a great area to get away from the loud crowds on Bourbon St. There were so many little spots to pop into and see live music all night long. When I come back to New Orleans, Frenchmen St will be top of the list for the night life!

went to Frenchman street looking for Jazz was a few bars/restaurants playing jazz - service not great in most of them - serving beer in plastic cups and seemed to run out of food you had ordered - bands were excellent -

I went to a restaurant on Frenchmen Street then walked around afterwards. There are live music bars, restaurants, art/crafts shops and flea market. Definitely a place to just go and see.

Go there in the late afternoon for a great selection of free live music. There are several music choices from rock to jazz. Warning: people can still smoke in the bars of Louisiana.

My brother and I were recommended to visit here instead of Bourbon street. Yes there are a lot of places for music 🎶! We only went into one. The music is actually better and easier to hear outside, inside it is way too loud! The sidewalks are very crowded and hard to walk on. I was surprised we actually enjoyed... More

This is a less touristy area of restaurants, bars and a few stores away from Bourbon Street. It's a good area to go to get a bit more local.

Any one of the bars on Frenchmen Street always has great, live music with local talent. Two of my favorite musicians are Jeff Chaz and Ed Wills. Look up where they are playinf and stop by. You won't be disappointed!

A taxi driver recommended this place & we were so glad he took us here! Was much cleaner/nicer than bourbon street & not as tacky!!! There were lots of people around & the art scene was very cool. Don't get me wrong, we had a great night out in bourbon st, this was just a nice change.

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighbourhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
