I took the tour of the house. This was defiantly a tour of art and history buffs. Not only did I learn about Degas and his paintings, but his family and New Orleans history. Absolutely fascinating. I gained a deeper appreciation for his work. The tour guide told me on certain dates two of his descendants show the house. There... More

Thank you for your kind 5-star review of our Tour. This tour is not only enjoyed by art and history buffs, but people who know nothing about art or history come to a deeper understanding of a significant event that took place in New Orleans - the beginning of the Impressionist Movement by Degas. The great-grandnieces who give the tours... More

Not really worth the cost. Says great-grand niece runs the tour but not so. The woman who ran it was somewhat informative but repeated the same things over and over. Tour dragged on. Breakfast was good. Lots of copies of Degas.

Thank you for attending our Tour. We are sorry that you were displeased with the price. Our tour involves actual history, not made-up stories, and we feel it is one of the most valid tours in the city. Unfortunately, even with two great-grandnieces of Degas giving the tours, sometimes one or both cannot give the tours since we give daily... More

Thank you for your wonderful review of our Tour. We are happy that your mother learned first-hand how Degas played his part in the Impressionist movement. We're glad you mentioned the neighborhood tour. Few people realize that that part of the tour is included in the price and is very interesting. We appreciate your attending our tour and your kind... Breakfast was delicious!! I enjoyed hearing about Degas and his time in New Orleans. I was surprised that he had connections here and enjoyed hearing how his four months here gave him the insight and energy to leave the "old ways" and align himself with the Impressionists. The tour was interesting and lasted a little over two hours. I didn't... More

Thank you so much for your kind review. It is a pleasure to read a review posted by someone who “gets it” – who enjoyed learning about such an important time in art history and realizes the impact those four months had on Impressionism and the art world. Imagine -- had Degas not come to New Orleans, he may never... More

Even though he lived here less than five months, there is much to know about Edgar Degas, his NOLA connection (his mother was born here), his relatives and the works he produced while here. The tour guide was fascinating and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour!

Thank you for your kind review of the Tour. As you indicated, there is so much that is unknown about Edgar Degas and the tour is a glimpse into his fascinating life. Seeing the room on the tour where he actually painted is a thrill. We appreciate your recommendation and hope you will return to see us. More

This was awkward and embarrassing. The house works as a B&B, a wedding venue and a "museum" - but there's nothing there to see really. They only have 3 pieces of original furniture from the time Degas lived there (for a bit more than 4 months btw) and no original works by the artist are exposed. Even the few furniture... More

I felt this tour was based on an insignificant portion of time that Degas spent in New Orleans. They have none of the original paintings, which were almost all portraits, that he did while staying here. He did no painting of any part of New Orleans. It consisted of mainly gossip about the relationships within the family. The house itself... More

The house and property is interesting, but if you are at all interested in Degas/Impressionist art, this tour is a must-see. Degas' Creole/New Orleans family connections are explained (fascinating) and many of the paintings that he did based on time spent there. I highly recommend it

Thank you for your review of the Edgar Degas House Creole Impressionist Tour. We are always grateful when a tour attendee understands and appreciates what Degas House is all about, and obviously you do. Edgar Degas’ time in New Orleans in 1872-73 at Degas House made history because it was when Degas began to paint in the impressionist style, and... More

If you are in New Orleans and are an art lover, this is a must-see! It is not very well-known - even our cab drivers, who were New Orleans natives, didn't know it was there - and we stumbled on it from a pamphlet we'd gotten at the Visitor Center. Neighbourhood Profile
Treme
That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.
