Neighbourhood: Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.

Easy to get to and find, right around the corner from Commander's Palace. It's a cute group of stores in the Rink and conveniently, a coffee shop is just below the bookshop. Bookshop had a little bit of everything, a ton of Anne Rice and an adorable kids section.

A beautiful bookstore filled with interesting books. The store is in a lively historic building which housed a skating rink in the 1800s. We bought several books for our grandson and enjoyed browsing the entire store. Afterwards we went downstairs and had coffee and pastry at Chicory House. Made for a nice morning!

If you’re in the Garden District be sure to stop in this awesome and surprising book store. My daughter and I both walked out with some gems. Great store!

Perhaps it was our mistake for assuming this would be something beyond your normal bookshop experience. We expected to find a uniquely New Orleans kind of collection or atmosphere, but there is little difference between this bookshop and any other locally owned bookshop you might come across. Nothing to complain about, but not worth going out of your way to visit.

The Garden District Bookshop is wonderful, and a must-see stop for all book lovers! The store is inside a historic building called The Rink. The store carries all different types of books. It has many books that are signed by the authors. They have a huge wall of books that are all about New Orleans. They have travel books for New Orleans, books on New Orleans history, tons of books on ghosts, spirits, and voodoo in New Orleans, and fun souvenir books on New Orleans. They also have kids books, journals, special books, new releases, and more!

A lovely place to browse for a few minutes or an hour while in the Garden District. I wish they had a few more places to sit down, however.

We've been here several times and always leave with multiple books. Great selection, and excellent (informed) service. If you want a real book, skip the chain stores, this is the place.

On my first trip to New Orleans, I stumbled upon this shop after touring Lafayette Cemetery (across the street) -- and I haven't stopped thinking about it since! It has an excellent selection and sells many signed books that will soon become collector's items. I've picked up so many good items here, that I genuinely miss it when I'm back home in Canada.

This time around I was able to grab some great local interest research books as well as a signed copy of Sally Field's autobiography and a signed copy of Ellie Kemper's memoir (which is super fun by the way!).

They also had super cute gator-reading-books wrapping paper and would wrap your books free of charge for Christmas.

I have to agree that while some staff members are friendly, others are somewhat standoffish. I've worked in customer service a lot, so I understand that it's exhausting, but a smile now and then would be very much appreciated. :)
