Hands down the best afternoon was spent walking and admiring this historical cemetery. Bring your camera and visit the weeping angel. Absolutely love this place.

Very interesting to see how much was put into building the family tombs. We went with a tour guide so we received information about them.

After learning about this cemetery from a tour guide, I just had to visit. It's incredible how each plot is so unique from the next. Absolutely worth the short trip! The ladies in the office offered a map to the cemetery and this place is totally walk-able, however, a car may have made the trip a little better.

A trip to New Orleans is not complete without a cemetery tour. Take my word for it, I am a local and just brought some out of towners through and they were so grateful that I did. Our cemeteries tell a lot about the city of New Orleans.

My husband and I stopped here during our stay in New Orleans. I had never heard of it but fellow guests at our B&B said it was worth stopping to see the Weeping Angel and I love to visit cemeteries. We were warned we would need a map so we stopped in one of the offices of the cemetery. If... More

Really cool place, so old and ful of history. There's plenty of walking tours there so no need to pay for a tour since its very small so you'll hear every tour guide talk about the place. Walking distance from bourbon street.

Of the many iconic cemetaries in New Orleans this is one of the most well known. It is right along the interstate highway leading to downtown New Orleans and is the last rest of some famous people like Al Hirt. The Cemetary started life as a horse racing track in 1838. The cemetary is actually located in New Orleans not... More

Our guide was a very knowledgeable man on the cemetery, it's inhabitants, and the history of burials in the cemetery and how the same plot is used over and over by the same family for many generations, some dating back to the 1830.

This is a very interesting cemetery to visit. We did it on the city tour, our bus guide was very knowledgeable and witty. Be sure to go on a guided tour to get the best experience.

I did a tour to the Metairie Cemetery while in New Orleans. This is a nice, historic site and the tour guide provided a lot of interesting facts and information.

Staying in Lakeview

Neighbourhood Profile
Lakeview
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
