That sound? That flavor? That certain je ne sais quoi that lets you known you’re in “Nawlins” and nowhere else? It’s all good and in broad abundance on the streets of Tremé, where so much of what’s considered to be the very best of New Orleans culture and tradition is, put simply, just how people go about their daily lives in this historic part of town. As one of America’s oldest African-American neighborhoods and among the nation’s first established residential areas for free people of color, Tremé’s significant heritage and contribution cannot be understated. This is especially the case when considering some of Tremé’s most famous residents, most notably jazz great Louis Armstrong. For full flavored food, funky and jazzed up music, and vibrant street life presented with homegrown pride, you can’t beat a visit to Tremé.

Cannot say enough about our tour guide Richie. His knowledge of St. Louis Cemetery #1 was astounding. He was well versed in the history of this iconic New Orleans site, extremely personable and surprisingly poignant, all this through terrible weather conditions! Richie was also incredibly engaging, answering all our questions (he even sought me out after our tour had ended to follow up on a question I had asked). A tour of St Louis Cemetery No 1 should be on everyone's "must do" list!

Fun trip with our teens. It was a hot day but they had misters to keep us cool and some shade structures. Very organized too.

We had so much fun! Zelda was our tour guide and she was great. So full of information, but funny and kept it interesting. It was short and sweet. Don't forget to buy perpetual care! 😂

First, don’t wait until late in the day to try and get reservations. Even though tours are every 15 minutes they fill up fast.
Even though the price is a little steep it was worth it. My only disappointment was even with all that revenue they could have used some of that money to do some preventive maintenance without taking away from the historical appearance. Also you are really on a tight tour schedule without time to look around on you own. I love old cemeteries and was not disappointed. Our guide , Alan did a great job

A lot of people would consider a tour of a cemetery a bit weird, but this was definitely not the case. Our guide, Zelda, was thoroughly professional, extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and humorous. If you visit New Orleans, I would thoroughly recommend you visit here, you'll be amazed at the history.

Casey was an amazing tour guide. We loved his dry wit; he was very knowledgeable and spoke nice and clearly so everyone could hear. Don’t miss this opportunity… we learned so much and it is definitely a must-do in New Orleans.

We enjoy cemeteries and their history. And this was an excellent tour, which explained how New Orleans cemeteries work. the history of this specific cemetery, and some of the people buried there.

We plan to visit New Orleans in January. We always like to start with the Visitor's Center when going to a new city. After we are finished in the Visitor's Center, can we leave our car parked there while we do the Hop On, Hop Off bus?
Guest Experience Manager
New Orleans, LA2 contributions
Hi James, our visitor parking is limited and only for short term parking. There is a lot right next door that offers very affordable rates for all day parking. We'd be happy to help you with this when you arrive. Hope to see you in January!
