There were SEVERAL Banksy pieces in NOLA, though only a few are left at this point, the Rain Girl (or Umbrella Girl) is one of them. The have placed a plexiglass over it to protect it, but people still find a way to deface this incredible art. Shameful but not surprising as Banksy is loved internationally and pushes the boundaries unlike taggers. Visit this great spot before its gone for good1

This may seem like a waste of time as it outside of the French Quarter (but not too far - it is walkable). If you are Banksy fan, it is worthwhile. Don't go on a sunny day as the glare off the plastic protector doesn't make for great photos.

After much debate, my husband and I decided to see if we could find this Banksy piece. We were a little worried about what state we’d find it in since it’s a frequent target for vandals (even though it’s protected under a sheet of plexiglass).
It’s a little hard to find, as it’s tucked away on the side of an unassuming building, but looking for it is part of the fun. We were happy to find it free of any major vandalism and took a minute to just enjoy it.
If you are at all interested in Banksy or street art in general, I highly recommend taking the time to seek out Rain Girl...she’s well worth it! :)

I was just in New Orleans last week (May 12-16, 2018) and walked past this after a night of heavy drinking in the Bywater. It's on Rampart. I wasn't sure if it was real Banksy or a Banksy copycat but upon further investigation on the interwebs it was the real thing! very cool! I thought it must be legit since it was behind plexiglass but didn't know Banksy ever put work in Nola. What makes this work even more interesting is that all Banky's other Nola artwork has been painted over by Fred Radtke, a New Orleans anti-graffiti activist (also known as Grey Ghost) and "Rain Girl" is the last surviving piece in Nola. Another interesting tidbit is that all the buildings Banksy painted on in Nola's value increased by $75,000-$200,000!! WOW! That definitely explains the plexiglass. This work only gets more intersting with context.

Of the 14 Banksy murals in New Orleans only 3 remain. This is arguably the most iconic one of the 3 and also the one in the safest location. It's also quite easy to find. It has not been covered in Perspex.

this was our 2nd time visiting umbrella girl, the previous in June 2019. I'm so happy that there is plexiglass over this incredible piece of art since the amount of graffiti around it and on the plexiglass between seeing it in June and now in November was absolutely heart breaking. The Banksy in the lobby of The International is a great example of the effects that vandalism has on art. but, if you are a Banksy fan you have to go see this. it's truly a spiritual moment standing next to a real deal authentic Banksy piece "in the wild"

It is covered with a big clear protector, but someone already did some damage to the bottom of the work. The graffiti is pretty cool.

It was fun to walk to find the painting. It is off the beaten path of the French Quarter. If you are into art or just need break from shopping, eating, and drinking; it’s a nice walk. It’s on the corner opposite of the Rampart Food store. We walked right past it. There was a kind women in the neighborhood who we got directions from.

Don't look at the map location, it's a block north on the corner of Rampart. It's a cool example of street art. I thought it was worth a little walk and search.

We went looking for this but it wasn’t there. Perhaps it was painted over or removed but definitely not signs of it…………..

How can you tell it’s a real Banksy?
Written 20 August 2018
there are books that show his collection of art that he's done around the world and labels the city they are in. plus the fact that it's protected by plexiglass to save it ftom being destroyed or stolen helps with the authenticity. it's location also is a good indicator it's legit. someone who would go through the trouble if faking it would most likely be doing it for purposes of profit and would have it in a high traffic area and charge to see it.
