Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, located in the U.S. Custom House...

Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, located in the U.S. Custom House on Canal Street, encourages you to use all five senses as you explore North America’s largest museum devoted to insects and their relatives. You’ll discover why insects are the building blocks of all life on our planet and along the way, you’ll be shrunk to bug size; wander through a mysterious Louisiana swamp; join the active audience of an awards show for bugs, by bugs; and be captivated by thousands of butterflies in an Asian garden. Voted A top museum for you and your kids by CNN, 2009.

If you have kids or love bugs this is the place for you! The bug cafe is so cool and the person working there was knowledgeable and friendly! The butterfly garden was very pretty and cool! A fun place to see, but if bugs are not your thing, don't spend your time or money there!

I have been here several times and it never disappoints. Everyone that works there is really nice and the facility is clean. This is a must do for anyone with kids in the New Orleans area!!

We spent a few hours in here and could have spent much more. I'd never given the insect world much thought before this but I learnt so much here. I couldn't come at the insect-based food in the café though. The butterfly display was very special.

This was included with my super ticket for the zoo and aquarium, the building is deceiving tom how amazing the place inside is. Take your time, look at all the exhbits. And don't be afraid to try the edible bugs in the kitchen area.

Would have skipped this attraction if not included in our pass/package from the audubon zoo and aquarium. Stand alone price of $25 would be disappointing, but as a package deal a nice little side trip - 3 1/2 stars . The location makes it an ideal diversion if the weather is uncooperative. Be aware that it is located in the... More

So much to see and learn. We shared our visit with primary school students who were grossed out and otherwise enthralled by the bugs and butterflies.

What a great place for adults and kids alike. So many bugs, beetles, butterflys and more. Plenty of interactive areas for kids and so much to learn. Staff are on hand to answer any questions and to impart their vast knowledge of the insect world which is absolutely fascinating. Stand still when you reach the butterfly garden and you might... While strolling down in the French qtrs., area we passed by this rather unassuming bldg. Within is a real show case of butterflies from around the world. In the event you are in the area and enjoy such features, come inside and be amazed.

The Garden and Insectarium is easy to navigate. You can simply stroll and look, or you can read all the information posted near the exhibits and get a real education! Many exhibits of live creatures (some creepy, some beautiful). And the ability to see so many live, beautiful butterflies close up in the Butterfly Garden is worth the price by... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
