Recent trip to New Orleans included a lovely stroll around Jackson Square. There are a multitude of artists and musicians set up around the perimeter with various levels of talent. If your looking for local art there are many opportunities to choose from. Restaurants and stores also surround the square for your strolling pleasure. Across from the square on the... More

I had set time aside to spend time in the square specifically but I passed through it so many times it almost wasn't necessary.

I wandered around Jackson Square for part of an afternoon and was absolutely entertained. There were many artists of all varieties, tarot card readers, palm readers, performance artists, and more. You could spend hours watching people and listening to the the small groups of jazz musicians gradually popping up in front of the cathedral.

Stand across the street from Jackson Sq up on the viewing area to get the best pictures. This way you are higher than the traffic below. If you are patient enough to wait for all the horse-n-buggy's to line up in the street than your picture is even more spectacular. It is a stately building and the grounds are well... More

The Square was bustling when we were there. Artists set up along the fence, a the shops and restaurants were busy. Cafe Du Monde for Beignets had lines, so we did take out and ate in the square. The view from the south side captures the church and the Jackson statue

Artists, music and people watching it's all here, you can spend hours here having fun. Walk through and you are on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River so just sit and gaze.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
