About
A truly unique walking tour of French Quarter courtyards (museum and private), as well as the city's oldest cemetery, St. Louis #1. See beautifully fountained and tropical gardens as well as old slave quarters as you hear stories of old Creoles and learn about their distinct culture. See above-ground burials and view the tomb of the famous Voodoo Queen "Marie Laveau" as you learn about Voodoo in Catholic New Orleans. Tours are offered in English and French. We also offer French language tours of the Tréme and Garden District of New Orleans.

We took the french-language tour with Elise on New Year's Day. It was a lovely walk around the French Quarter, with access to some locations not available to the general public. The information share by our guide was interesting, but much of it was quite superficial. We would have liked more depth to the history. However the main disappointment was that we could only hear about half of what our guide was saying. Either she did not speak loudly enough, or the group was too large, or we did not find quiet spots to stop and listen, but we missed out on a lot of the information.

Rosemary was our tour guide for this walking tour. Because of her knowledge and ability to convey that knowledge, this was one of our best tours. She not only talked about the history of New Orleans, but we also discussed current events. She took us to the hidden places away from the tourist traffic. We've been to New Orleans 4 times in the past and have done several other tours which were all repetitious. On Rosemary's tour we learned many more new and exciting things about New Orleans and the people who lived here.

Our guide Bill K was bursting with historical information of New Orleans. His extensive knowledge and passion of the city comes across throughout the walk. The commentary was even accented a couple of times with relevant songs! Stopping at interior courtyards was a treat. A great way to get a feel for the city and see some of the significant sights. Nothing "hokey" about this tour, it's all quality.

My husband and I had visited Laura Plantation and LOVED the tour there. It was absolutely amazing. I had also read reviews online about this tour (Le Monde Creole) that were glowing, so we were really excited for this tour. Unfortunately, what we got was nothing like the tour we got of Laura Plantation. Our guide for Le Monde Creole was quite dry - he recited just the basic facts with no exciting extras or interesting analysis. Plus, the first 30 minutes or so of the tour was also a total overlap with things we had already learned at Laura Plantation (family geneaology and some of the family stories). We also noticed that the guide kept mixing up the names of the Duparc/Lacoul family members (anyone who hadn't been on the Laura Plantation's tour would have been quite confused!!).

We went to a few courtyards around the city, and St. Louis Cemetery #1. The flier we had said we were supposed to visit a Pharmacy and some "haunted sites," but we never did. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in this tour. The other people who have left glowing reviews must have had different tour guides - I got the impression that our guide might have been new to the job. I wouldn't go so far as to say that anyone should avoid this tour, because it sounds like it could be amazing with the right guide, but it looks like we got a bad apple.

More than 10 years ago I took the Le Monde Creole tour. It was wonderful. I so enjoyed the stories of the Laura Locoul family and how it was woven into various venues that we walked to in the French Quarter. I took the tour again in January 2015 and was so disappointed. It was much more akin to local history with maybe 10% information about the Laura Locoul family thrown in, almost as an afterthought.

Please be aware that there are two guides at Le Monde Creole tours named "Bill". There is myself; Bill C. the owner, and Bill K. As the owner, I take these reviews seriously and after these two recent reviews, Bill K has been temporarily removed from tour-guiding and is being retrained. It is our mission to give the best quality tour in New Orleans: we love our city and it's our passion to share this with our visitors. Thank you for taking a moment to read this. Bill C

The person in charge of "Le Monde Creole Tour" does not deliver on agreed upon services and seems indifferent about disappointing his customers.

That's a breach of contract, and worst of all, unamerican!

For our three consecutive nights stay in New Orleans, we had to request a change in the schedule as some crucial highlights of this great city (such as the New Orleans Museum of Arts) are not open everyday.

So we made a deal (three e-mails exchange) with Paul Nevski himself who seems to be the manager; he wrote us in his reply :

« No problem! Pick the day that suits you best and we will hold your reservation. Be at the 624 Royal st five minutes before 10 :00 am. »

So we agreed on Wednesday morning Feb the 20th in an e-mail signed by Paul Nevski himself.

« C'est bien noté! Bonne journée, Paul Nevski. »

We were there (presence confirmed by the lady who runs the shop at the 624 Royal St which is the meeting place for the tour) and we waited, and waited and nobody came; we called the resevation number (504) 568 18 01)

and someone there dared telling us

« well there is no reservation scheduled for today » !!!!!

Asthonishing given the previous e-mail exchanges !

Probably because there was not enough clients that morning (only the two of us) someone just cancelled the tour without regard for us!

Back at the hotel, I sent an e-mail to Nevski asking if it is usual for him to let down his clients. I'm still waiting for his answer.

I would have liked to give goods marks to the "Tour Le monde Créole" but I can't.

Conclusion… Do not count on that guy

I will start by saying Rosemary is a wonderful guide and person. I do not wish to be insulting of her in any way. I booked tgus tour based on the amazing tour Id formerly had with Bill that was an extension of the rich family history and lifestyle of the Creoles. We were told at our first stop that the tour had changed, and now its just a hiatory of New Orleans. My heart broke. My teenager wanted all things haunted and Id promised her that even though this tour wouldnt be haunted or ghostly, the storytelling about this family that was tied to the hotel we were staying at was well worth it and very intriguing. We didnt get any stories of that family or about our hotel. Our hotel, The Olivier House was the last stop on the tour but nothing was said about it. The whole trip I tried to hear the history of our hotel and nobody was able to provide it. I was confused and we guessed she may have just been tired.

As a Chicagoan who travels to New Orleans quite frequently, I've enjoyed experiencing various tours of the city with different friends and visitors. People who journey to New Orleans often ask me about the city and for recommendations. My first choice for a city tour? Le Monde Creole.

Le Monde Creole describes the life and times of the Creole Duparc- Locoul family. This is the family that ran the famous Laura plantation for generations. Bill, the dynamic and friendly tour guide, provides a rich history of the family and the city while taking you throughout the French Quarter, various courtyards, some residences, and the St.Louis Cemetary No.1.

I've been on MANY tours of the city and this is he best by far. You get a decent history lesson of the city, a tour of the graveyard, the story of one of the most famous families of New Orleans, with some jokes and scandelous tales throughout. Can't be beat!

I would recommend traveling to the Laura Plantation a day before taking Le Monde Creole tour. I just happened to do this and I feel that it really added to the experience.

BONUS- Bill give discounts to students, so bring your college I.D.

Do not miss this tour. The guide has the gift of making the creole history come alive. 2.5 hours passed by quickly, without a moment of boredom - bravo!

As a girl from england on my first visit to NO (and unfortunately only passing through the city for 36 hours), I was torn between taking a tour based on the history of the city or a cemetery and voodoo tour. I have very keen interests in both, but as I was here with my mum, we decided to go for this tour as she was a little nervous about the more spooky side of the city! Well, I'm so glad we did.

I'd taken a walking tour in charleston SC a few days before, and our guide was extremely knowledgable, but it felt like you needed a degree in US history to follow what was going on. My understanding of US history is pretty good for a non-American (I teach aspects of it as a UK and US politics teacher) and I really wanted to learn more on this tour, without feeling completely ignorant in the process. Bill, our guide, allowed us to do that brilliantly. He captured and regaled the history of the city perfectly, without being patronising, and clearly loved his subject of Creole history in the city, which was infectious. It was wonderful being able to go behind the houses into the courtyards of the city, and to follow some of the footsteps of Laura's family.

I feel I'm leaving the city with a much better understanding of NO history, a better appreciation for the culture (which pretty much knocked me for six after a week of touring the more conservative cities of the south!) and some wonderful stories to share with my students when I get back to work. I would definitely recommend this to visitors of the city, looking for a historical perspective that you can't just get from a history book.
