Walking down State Street on a sunny afternoon is great way to spend some time. Who knows, you might find an exciting find in one of the shops or grab a coffee drink. If going when UW is in session, you'll be dodging many students. Also, be on the look out for and place to grab ice cream, too -... More

State street brings back memories of my youth. I used to work at the Peacock as a young adult, unfortunately its gone now, but I wanted to take my adult kids to state street and show them why people enjoy it so much. Too bad it was freezing that day but we really enjoyed ourselves. All the storekeepers were friendly... More

The city of Madison really needs to clean this place up. Could be a really happening place like it used to be. The place is overrun with homeless. Quite honestly it's a bit scary.

The small unusual shops are gone, but the beggers and panhandlers seem to be back in force. More corporate shops and stores than ever, it is almost like going to West Towne Mall now. Nothing like it used to be.

State Street is more modern than when we attended the UW, but it retains the funky vibe that it has always had. Street musicians entertained and thousands of people were walking on a VERY warm February evening in Wisconsin.

When we first starting coming to Madison for the state wrestling tournament I was afraid to take the kids on state street. Not sure what I was afraid of but now it is a highlight of our trips. There are so many restaurants, shops, bars you name it. If you can't find something to you like on state street to... More

This is how life should be: an entire street lined with stores and restaurants. The only problem is picking which restaurant because opportunity cost will always leave you feeling like you missed out. The solution is to come back another day and eat at a new place each time you visit. To hit all the spots to eat you'll need... More

The entire state street is an eclectic shopping venture with a little bit of everything. Usually a lot of street performers and very broad spectrum of people come there. Some areas are getting a little divey looking, but generally safe during the day.

Everyone loves State St! With tons of shops, restaurants and sights to see, State St is the hub of Madison. It also has a beautiful view of the capitol.
