State Street has lots of cool shops and restaurants. Everything from coffee shops to bookstores to second hand shops. It's nice that only cabs/buses can drive down the street. I very much enjoyed walking around there!

We love coming to Madison to visit our son, who lives near State Street. We always walk around State Street. It's such an interesting place, with so much to see, including interesting people. There are many great places to eat too.

Love State Street - have spent many days/nights ion this Street shopping, eating and drinking. It seems like several businesses are starting to leave/close (out of business) which is very sad. Love the uniqueness of this little town and all the fun quirky boutique type stores.

Our hotel was less than a half block off of State Street. We parked our car and walked for three days in downtown Madison. We toured the Capitol Square and up and down both sides of the street to and from campus - over a three day period. The corners are particularly interesting as the architecture of the buildings are... More

As a UW grad visiting Madison after many years away, State Street is a must visit. There are t-shirt and gift shops with UW memorabilia, huge used book stores, trendy coffee shops, and a wide variety of ethnic restaurants. The people watching is second to none, but do be careful after dark.

State Street is a must see for all visitors. Many varieties of stores, restaurants, and bars that emphasize the culture of Madison. Other attractions close to State Street are the Capital, the Farmer's Market, the University, and the Kohl Center.

Memorial Union may be the heart of UW, but State street is it's soul. It runs from the U to the Capitol. In between are a bunch of shops, bars and restaurants. There are even a few museums worth exploring. The street is very pedestrian friendly. If there is only a cross walk, cars will give you the right of... More

Walked down State Street after walking to the Capitol. Lots of specialty shops and restaurants. Homeless people are around asking for money and sleeping in areas nearby.

A very pedestrian friendly area with an excellent selection of unique shops and eateries. I have lived in the area for many years but only became aware of this gem recently when looking for a quality hat. It is the type of shopping my wife and I love to do when we travel on vacation. If in the area it... More
