I love to go anywhere to just sit on a pier and listen to the water slapping against the dock. The sight of sails, boats, kayaks when the lake is not real crowded is wonderful. One of the best places to see it from is...More

We went on a pontoon boat owned by family on a windy Chilly August morning. It was very nice. Pleasant ride across the lake from locks connecting Lake Monona. From the middle one can view U of Wisconsin Campus. Medical Complex. And capital building. Ride...More

I needed a place to feel calm and gain inner peace. I say with the ducks at the water's edge and found it. Beautiful place to just relax and not have to think.

We really enjoyed taking our boat on the lake, it huge, and plenty of room to drive around. Had a fun day, lots of launch ramps, and fishing. i really like the locks, and the canals are peaceful to cruise through

Take advantage of benches located along Lake Mendota's perimeter. I found a bench near Menona Terrace to enjoy lunch and it was very peaceful - nice escape from a busy schedule. Ducks greeted me nearby and hung out along the shorelines. The crappie fishing must...More

Lake Mendota is quite large. One way to see the lake is by visiting the Memorial Union Terrace on the campus of University of Wisconsin. If you appreciate contemporary and modern art, don't miss the FREE Chazen Museum of Art, just 2 blocks away. Indoor...More

We walked along the lake by the campus. Very beautiful scenes. Not at all crowded. Nice for sunset, too.

We did the lunch boat ride - was nice. The clam chowder soup was to die for.. That was my favorite. Met nice people on the ride, the captain was great. No rowdies which made the trip a pleasure

We walked around and watched the ice boats play... this was a real treat for these visitors from warmer, southern states!

There are pontoon rides and perhaps even rentals available through MSCR (Madison School and Community Recreation). "Drop in" rides are $6. It's about a 90 min ride. Beautiful way to see the lake. For more info, do a web... More
If I get there at around 6, where should I tell the cab driver to drop me off for a jog? I'd like to see the lake while jogging. Is it safe if I am alone? Also, is there a good place to grab a casual bite to eat afterwards? Will likely be sweaty. Also, can you paddleboard on the lake or kayak that late in the evening?

The best place to be dropped off would be the Memorial Union on the UW campus which is under major renovation but I believe they still rent boats and paddle boards there but you may have to be a student or faculty member. A... More
