The place is believed to be the landing place of Princess Vihara Maha Devi, who later became the queen of King Kawan Tissa. She is the mother of much acclaimed King Dutu Gamunu. Believed to be belonging to a history spanning more than 2000 years!

This is the place where Viharamaha Devi (Queen of King Kawan Tissa) landed to east. There are a newly built stupa and ancient ruins. The historic place is under threat of invasion by minority ethnic groups

If you are interested in history & culture, this is a must visit when traveling to Arugam Bay. A bit hard to locate but worth the trouble and you'll only need an hour or so to walk around this Stupa. Nice views too from the area but rather hot at midday.

This is a very rare scene. A Temple fully surrounded by sand. This is situated almost on the beach. This is the landing place of Viharamahadevi.

It's amazing to see as well as to feel how far our history can take us. But it will be a great help if there was a board or a notice with the information on what has happened and what's happening right now.
